Make sure your insurer is happy with you going for winter tyres.

Where in the UK are you?
Very little benefit if you're city based and unlikely to get more than a few days of snow and ice. May as well stick with your usual tyres.
I've never fitted winter tyres to any of my vehicles and it's never been a problem - based in NW England. However, I could see it being a wise move if you live in the Scottish Highlands.

Try winter tyres on a very cold, wet road & you will realise the benefits are not just on ice & snow. Very little benefit if you're city based and unlikely to get more than a few days of snow and ice. May as well stick with your usual tyres.
