I’m swapping my cars around at the moment, and would like a family car that’s a bit of a change from the norm.

I’ve a Taycan on order but will probably now wait for the Sport Turismo version, so would like something else for the next year.

I’ve an Abarth 595 that I keep where I work on the continent, an R8 Plus, for fun, And I’ve just bought an SL, so it’s a nice collection of cars, but since I rejected my Model S I’ve nothing for the long trips as a family.

Anyway, to the point. I quite like the idea of a Mulsanne Speed to do this job. Good recent ones are under £100,000 now, and I do like the idea of having the wife cosseted in the back on the long journeys.

Does this seem like a decent choice?

Of course! The golf clubs are in the boot & she'd spoil the aerodynamics if she was on the roof rack. Where else is she ment to go!? rolleyes

Of course! Silly me. hehe

Anyway, forgive me, this is the only Mulsanne you should consider...

Er, no, but on a long journey she sometimes likes to sit with the children back there.

You force yours to sit in the front?

I’m after a new one, really, a couple of years old at most.

Is that one that you have? What’s the drive like?

No, it's on my 'one day' list.

And I'm not brave enough to force my wife to do anything she doesn't want to.

I've been using our 2017 Mulsanne Speed as our family car for the past couple of years (20k miles and counting). Every drive in it still feels special. We now have a 2 year old as well (we got the car right before she popped in), and I will say it is one of the best family cars I could hope for.

It has been phenomenal as my daily driver and is great for roadtrips; I've taken it to the track, driven it in the snow, brought Christmas trees home, lugged around my bike, etc. Ample space for the dog, luggage, and stroller. I do wish it was AWD and had a 360 top down camera, otherwise nearly perfect.

That's cool. Do you just stick the dog on the backseat? I've been toying with the idea of an Arnage and the dog is one of the things holding me back.

@ChocolateFrog : yep, just get a blanket to cover the seats and she hangs out on the back seat.

Im 58 and been driving Bentleys for years but never a Mulsanne, however this year i thought it was time i dipped my feet in and got one,omg i love it,the car is like no other Bentley or car i have driven before, powerful, luxurious, loads of room, yes it drinks boy does it drink and its a long car to park.
I started with a 2015 non facelift and then quickly changed to a 2018 facelift car which in my opinion is so so much better, bsm, better sat nav, nicer looks and more up to date.
I may possibly change it in at some point for the new flying spur but not for sometime as my car was over 320k new and it had lost nearly 60 percent of its value in under 2 years so im happy that im not going to lose a fortune over next few years as the mulsanne is being stopped by bentley next year and this can only steady its value.
Ive been looking and theres a real shortage of gen 2 mulsannes around for sale now,so get looking would be my opinion.

I am currently considering swapping my 2006 Continental Flying Spur for 2011 Mulsanne, and found the comments in this thread helpful. However, would somebody be able to kindly provide a little more detail on what the Mulsanne is like to live with day to day in terms of negotiating UK roads and car parks? The Spur at over 17 feet is generally OK and is used daily, goes to the supermarket, parks in multi storeys etc and works as a family car and daily driver, however I am wondering just how much difference the extra length of the Mulsanne (I believe 10 inches) makes. Having tried to find other comments on the subject, they range from “it is impossible to park anywhere” to “it’s fine you just have to be a bit more thoughtful on where you are going to leave it”. Given I have been running the Spur for over 6 years, I am content with the running costs etc, and we do have a couple of SUVs as alternatives but I don’t want the Bentley to languish in the garage - it is purely size that is holding me back from a change at the moment.

Thanks for any help!

Kind regards
Lawrence

I'm an ex-pat Yank living in Ireland, so I find all the parking garages and spaces really small. That being said, I don't notice it that much more in the Arnage than I do in my wife's Ford SMax.

I have had the odd wheel scrape, though, from the high curbing getting in and out of garages. I really must get them refinished....

Oh, and once your teenage daughter gets in the car a couple of times with mud all over her riding boots and back protector the dog won't seem like such an issue.... wink
