What happened to Hatty?
Discussion
A a few years ago there was a forum member who purchased a Turbo R called "Hatty" from another FM who I believe was sadly in ill health at the time.
The story has always stuck in my mind. I was wondering if there have been any updates recently.
Does the FM still have the Turbo? If not what happened to it?
How is the gentleman who owned it before?
If this has been covered in recent months please excuse me, I haven't frequented the forum for a long time.

Hatty was purchased by greamel and there were posts about fettling etc. greamel now appears to be named SRT Hellcat, last post about Hatty seems to be about three years ago.
Would be good for an update, I expect the car's moved on?

I'm sad to learn that Waffagolf passed away. I know he really enjoyed that motor. Would be good for an update, I expect the car's moved on?

Indeed I couldn't find anything recent about the car hence this post.
I trust greamel/Hellcat will drop by and give us an update.
It is just over two years since I had contact with Waffagolf. What a really great gent. I truly hope that he beat his illness and is now in the rudest of health.
Where do i start.
Hatty went in to have the bits of corrosion on the wheel arches attended to. It languished at the body shop for 8 months until they finally got around to getting on with it. When they started to prep Hatty the owner of the body shop went out for the day and left his guys to it. They flatted the entire car, therefore having to repaint Hatty in full. Not my problem.
Hatty then goes back to my mechanic mate Brian to fix the steering rack yet again as the recon rack just was not working as it should. It would not return in your hand and would lock up if turned quickly. It stayed on Brian's ramp for over a year. Finally I came up with a ruse to get Hatty out of Brian's and arranged to go up with a fellow mechanic and friend to collect Hatty. Brian was just finishing leathering Hatty off after washing the dust of her when we arrived.
Both myself and my mechanic friend where devastated. Hatty had severe paint reaction on every single panel. I could have cried. Seriously.
My mechanic guy left with the Hatty and promptly broke down half way home. One of the dizi caps was not put back on properly by Brian after he had replaced the drive belt between the two dizi's.
Hatty was of an age that these cars where painted in thermo plastic acrylic. That paint never fully hardens. Which explains why in the cold the roof showed some micro blistering but it would disappear in the sun. So you repaint the car and the original paint continues to move under the new paint and it effectively wrinkles the new coat of paint. Disaster.
So I had two choices in the end. Have a bare metal repaint done or sell the car to the dick head who messed the paint up in the first place. I wrestled with myself over this conundrum but in the end I sold it to the dick head. He kept it a while then sold it on. It has now had four steering racks having blown the seals every time. When I had the new rack fitted we put a new power steering pump on it. It must have been the wrong pump.
Prior to the above disaster we were in Spa Francorchamp and it blew the seals on the power steering rack. I had to get the car recovered by the RAC whilst we came home on Eurostar. Hatty was not the same after that. Her soul was gone.
Now and again I have thoughts of buying another Turbo R. But Hatty was just one of those special cars and I don't think I could ever find a suitable replacement.

Thank you for the very detailed update Hellcat.
I do hope that Waffagolf is still around.
I remember reading the thread he started about the car, which to him was more than a car. I also recalled that he sold it to you and you were a few months into ownership when I last read about it.
It must've been very frustrating for all of those bad things to happen. More so given the personal history of the motor.
Once again thanks for the response.

I don't. I have searched back through the forum to no avail. I believe it was pre 92. There is a sticker under and on the bonnet from memory that will tell you. One of the knowledgeable guys on here informed me where to look. His name escapes me as well. Most importantly Ian is still battling on. May we all hope and pray that he defeats this illness. His resolve to battle on is just incredible.

Are you thinking of Steve, known as Byteme. Very knowledgable as if he was a Bentley factory man or independent specialist. https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Thanks. This is the thread that Waffagolf started about his Hatty.
As you can see on page 12 - it made quite an impression on me and I now own a Brooklands. Shame to hear Hatty hasn't been able to stay in decent ownership. Hopefully some of Hatty's soul now lies in my Hetty,
As to what happened to Waffagolf I couldn't say but judging by a lack of activity from him on these forums, I fear the worst sadly.
