I've been investigating alternatives for upgrade to the Gen1 Head unit, which is, to put it kindly, a bit dated.

The market leader is the BENHUR - a complete plug-and-play swap out of the entire infotainment system offered by lots of indie specialist workshops.

This seems to cost about £3,000 - and while I'm tempted, I think I'd miss the graphics from the factory unit, and the feel of all the buttons. It's part of the car's charm.

There's a dealer called Cartronics (www.cartronics.co.uk) who developed a system that replaces just the screen with a modern head unit, but retained all of the other controls and original graphics. The problem is that they do so few of these that they charge around £9K. (And they do the BENHUR system now as well - further reducing the demand).

I had wondered - why does nobody offer the Gen2 head unit as an upgrade to older Continentals? Is there a practical reason why the new head unit won't fit in the 2003-2010 chassis? (Leaving aside the need for a new fascia). Are Gen2 units just horribly expensive to acquire? or it is a wiring/mounting nightmare as well?

I have a 2010 GT Speed and have been investigating the upgraded replacement. The best deal that I could find was through 'Car Communications' based in Blackburn who offered a Kenwood Stereo supplied and installed along with Reverse Camera retention cable will cost £3098.00 inc VAT.
