I have a 1989 bentley eight turbo r. It runs ok for around 15 minutes and then no spark from the plugs. I have replaced the distributor control module and it is still the same. hunted everywhere for the crank handle sensor and its not in the position that the the dealer say it is. only thing i could find that looks like a crank handle sensor and picks up from the flywheel, runs to a round diagnostic plug. is it possible that it could have any cut off switch, as it has a slight leak on the suspension. it seems when the suspension rises within the 15 minute running, the spark stops or is it just coincidence? any help would be appreciated. thanks

If this has a coil and distributor setup take the coil off and give it a shake, if you can hear fluid sloshing around in it try replacing the coil.
For a coil and dizzy setup running for a short time and then losing a spark are symptoms of a failing coil.

I also have a rolls royce silver spirit which runs fine so i have taken a coil from that and tried it on the bentley with no change. Been on Haynes manual to try to locate the crank sensor and it is showing the crank sensor very close to the distributor but its not there. Bentley dealer have searched on chassis no and the crank sensor isnt in the location they say it is either and can't locate a crank sensor. is it possible that there isnt one?

It's probably the coil failing when getting hot. At least it sounds that way.

Don’t know if you’ve solved this yet but the glaring thing to me is that you are naming 2 variants as 1.

There was never an Eight Turbo R.

It is either an Eight or a Turbo R, although the VIN should tell a Bentley parts man the exact model.

Eights were non Turbo at that time, & Turbo R was the revised Mulsanne Turbo, the Mulsanne being the one they shoved a blower on but failed to update pretty much everything else!

LPT Brooklands arrived in 1993 iirc.

Sorry if I’m being a pedant!

I'll raise your pedantry,

Eight's were always non Turbo and the LPT Brooklands was introduced in late 1996 (1997 Model Year)

A bad edit on the Eight thing & I was confusing the `floor` shift arrival with Brooklands introduction!

Your pedantry is strong!!
