What's the general consensus on the V8S vs. GT Speed? They seem within 10% of the same price, yet the GT Speed was the more expensive car when new. Is it worth paying more for the GT Speed, is it the better car?

V8S Pro's:
10% better value? Not much in it tbh...
Sounds better imo
Better mpg

GT Speed Pro's:
Faster
Was a lot more money at new, so "better value" now they're V8S levels of cost?

Anything else? Anyone got a view on which is the one to look at?

Also.... what options would you consider essential on the varients above? Any nice to have's?

I looked at a lovely V8 today, however a 1 year old GT Speed is £116k, and a 2yr old V8S is £105k, which seems ever so close. Not sure why there's no difference between them when the Speed was the "top of the range" engine?

I think you have hit the nail on the head for pros on both.
In my opinion the V8 has a lovely sound especially with the sports exhaust.
Where as the W12 is slightly quicker.
It depends if your using as a grand tourer or feel the need to have the fastest one available.
I would go the V8 route personally although I do like the speed rims.

I have a GT Speed but have driven a V8S several times too.

The V8 feels a lot like driving a nice V8 Jag or any other V8 car. More nimble than the Speed.

The Speed with its W12 is immense and like no other car. Enormous grunt. It’s does feel heavy though. Almost like driving a Range Rover.

If MPG is very important then choose the V8. The Speed really does guzzle the juice and if you intend to do a lot of miles then it’s quite scary.

So, two completely different cars. The V8 is more day to day and the Speed is something extraordinary.

On the subject of sound..... slip the Speed into Sport and the loud burble is all I need!

Nice decision to have to make!

I asked the same things when buying mine - I bought the speed and don’t regret it one little bit.

Mines a daily driver and gives about 250 miles to £90.00 of shell premium

Amazing comfort and speed the w12 is by far the engine to have ...

What do you think of this car? Not sure the significance of being owned by bentley themselves, but the carbon brakes alone make it look good value?

This does look like a lot for the money. The meteor is a great colour too. I was in the same situation as you last year and got the impression that v8s residuals were probably better than the speed. I had a loan of both and did find the v8s had a more sporty feel. With the new continental gt release I would think prices will take a hit. For that sort of money you could get quite a nice mulsanne, have you thought of that option? That’s what I did in the end and don’t regret it, people talk about the size being a problem but once you get use to them they really are fine. And for a luxury car you really can’t get much better.

For what it's worth, I've just committed on a GT Speed. For the budget I was looking at (~£75k) there was just more selection available in terms of getting the colour/trim of choice and low mileage. Personally I also prefer the look of the GT Speed bumper area below the main grill, which is different to the V8. Along with the lowered stance of the car and the splitter and side-sills which mine has come with, it gives the car a much more sporty/aggressive look which I like. In terms of economy, it doesn't really both me (yet!) as I suspect the real world improvement isn't as material as you might think, both are going to guzzle fuel - watch the Harry's Garage review of the GTC V8 on YouTube for some interesting observations on that.
