Hi all, I recently purchased a 1984 Silver Spirit that was owned by Wilbur Smith the author that has a frankly astonishing maintenance history, nothing looked to go wrong just maintained at no expense spared..

Since I bought the car sods law but the driver window refuses to go down, the switch pushes the window up a touch and then it drops a back, still closed.

Does this sound like an easy/expensive fix?

And does anyone know of any specialists in the Kent area, near Ashford

Thanks!

You won't really know till you take the door panel off. Could be a failed microswitch, a rusty chain, a failed brake on the motor, or failed gears. It's very unlikely to be the motor itself.

I had the first two fail on my Bentley T2 at different times. Replacement parts are available.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Do you know of the Australian RR/Bentley forum? There are detailed descriptions of how to service the window winders which can slow down over the years. The forum is an endless source of help and advice from some extremely knowledgeable owners. Hope this might help.
