Continental boot lid operation

I've been having trouble with the opening and closing on a 2005 GT, can't seem to work out what the parts do on the latch in the boot,micro switch on one paddle and another electrical component on the other.

I had a similar issue on a 2007 model, in the end I just asked one of my Staff to read the handbook and demonstrate what they had learned to me. I've never dealt with the bootlid or its mechanisms myself, I usually have Jerome operate things like that.
