Running a Bentayga

Hi,

I currently have a RR Vogue but am considering a Bentayga when I change sometime next year, probably the new V8 diesel version. Does anyone have a idea of the running costs? They're not a deal breaker but I would be interested to know what I'd be letting myself in for.

Please don't do it ! would you not buy an Audi SQ7 ? I know the Bentley has nicer interior and quieter engine but its ugly , overpriced and basically just a posh Q7 .

I saw one the other day in the flesh, very nice, had the 5 spoke wheels and wasn't 'blingy'!

I would imagine the depreciation would be the most costly factor?!

We have been running a V8 Bentayga since early March, as a daily driver, having so far covered 7,000 miles. We have had RR previously but were fed up with poor reliability and shocking customer service. All I can say it is an astonishing car, we've taken ours skiing down to Switzerland, and we are currently down in Portugal with it on holiday covering 700 miles from Santander in a day, for long distance motoring it really is superb. My average fuel consumption over the 7,000 miles has been 30.4mpg and we've seen 40mpg on occasions, its amazingly fast and refined andI feel the engine has the characteristics of the old 6.75, torque is instantly available. In my mind this engine effectively makes the W12 redundant as in the real world its just as fast and doesn't have the huge running costs of the W12, where single figures mpg is the norm.

The only thing to point out is the headline price of 135k is just that with most leaving the showroom at 165k for a decent spec.

My reasons for swapping are similar to yours. The build quality of my car is awful, the service to be fair at my local LR dealer has been OK. The interior of the Bentley is on a different level to any other SUV out there and the new V8 seems to make the car a much more viable real world proposition. I have only to convince my wife that it's a good change from the RR!

Yes, they are two completely different cars, Bentley have spent a lot of time refining the Bentayga, yes they share parts, but drive completely different, we considered and dismissed the SQ7, price was never the over riding factor for us, but the quality of the materials used in the Bentayga is completely different, The Bentayga is a very forgiving car to live with day to day with but is also a great long distance continental cruiser, the refinement is simply astonishing. I am exceptionally critical when it comes to cabin noise and refinement, having made this journey down to Portugal the last 2 years in my Phantom which is an exceptionally silent car for long distance touring, people dismiss this car because of the looks but without considering the overall picture, something I myself was guilty of last year having ordered a RR LWB as my daily driver, but the story surrounding that could have been made into a comical book. we have thoroughly enjoyed the last 7,000 miles in ours and I will continue to use it for continental motoring until our new Phantom arrives in December

What assurances have RR made you that the reliability of the phantom will be better?

I can say without doubt there will be teething problems with the new Phantom, there is a lot more technical kit to go wrong, but Mrs dazzalse is rather insistent that we have the latest model! We like cars that are a little different and if Audi had launched the Q7 with a V12 we would have problem gone for that as the previous V12 was a special car, although the way the Betayga produces it power somewhat reminds meow that car

Hi Allister, hope al good keep meaning to drop you an email, but been on a few extended holidays! I have my name down for one, but not sure if I will take that, I like the Bentayga because you can use it everyday and not worry, the thing with the Phantom is you have to plan your journey and worry about where you are going to leave it, as you know the Mulsanne was vandalised a few weeks after I got it and although the culprit was caught she had no money so was ordered to pay just £150 in compensation even though the damage was £1200, so it would be a worry as too where you could use it.

I've got a feeling that the new Phantom with options is going to run to 600k I am in no doubt a fully specced car with a few bespoke options is going to run to 750k, it will be interesting to see how residuals are going t be moving forward as it moves the Phantom into a different league, and I know they struggle at the current price point with the existing car, so I feel this will be a very rare site on UK roads

Considering a bentayga too, anyone know if these are being discounted heavily? I asked the dealer if they would be willing to do a better deal on a bentayga or a spur and the answer seemed to indicate bentayga

I know looks wise the car is not to everyone's taste, I for one chuckled when I first saw it but if i'm honest it has grown on me in the last 4 weeks that it has been my daily driver, (in a works capacity.)
As above the refinement is epic imho, it really is another level and is a fantastic place to spend time in. I find it a dream to drive although it has taken a little while for me to get used to its width but that would be my 1 and only complaint and its probably just me being over cautious as it's not actually 'my' vehicle.

I seem to pretty much do a 50/50 split of London driving and longer mainly motorway journeys and its ideal for all, the more time I spend in it the more I really do like it and if you like your music, the Naim system is fantastic.

So how are you going to bespoke your 'gallery' I think I'd struggle to make a decision just to spec that one item of the car!!

So how are you going to bespoke your 'gallery' I think I'd struggle to make a decision just to spec that one item of the car!!

I will be going to the factory after our summer holiday in late September and making various decisions regarding spec, I think i'll be keeping the gallery simple
