Hi All
Recently purchased a 2007 Goodwood Phantom, 23,000 miles, full main dealer history, all good so far!
As the car was an auction purchase it was sold as seen but all seems good apart from two dashboard warning lights.
One seems to be a seatbelt symbol and one an airbag symbol.
Whilst I have wondered if (the airbag one) is on some sort of time service (?) ie must be replaced after 10 years ? I have taken the car to my trusted RR garage and he has diagnosed 2 "fault codes". So far so good but he now informs me that he cannot find out what they mean.
Any ideas guys?
Regards,
John.

Sounds like your "trusted RR garage " dont know what they're doing. i had a similar problem on my Arnage (air bag symbol), it turned out to be a wiring problem caused by moving the drivers seat. Sometimes you have to bite the bullet and pay the people who REALLY know what they're about, take it to the franchise dealer.

these are old BMW tech, any handy BMW indy should be able to tell you what the codes relate to on a similar vintage beemer. My guess is it will be the same common faults.

Sounds to me like the seatbelt loom under the seat may have been damaged at some point, it's relatively common in other cars (Mini for example) and those are the kind of warnings you get.

Since around 1998, Airbags are supposed to last the lifetime of the vehicle.
Earlier vehicles would have had a warning about inspection/renewal somewhere or other in the vehicle.
Always start at the easy end, check the underseat wiring first!

Firstly, you must have huge testicles buying a Phantom at auction yikes As someone else has said, sounds like an electrical issue somewhere under the seat, but if the guy you've taken it to doesn't know, take it elsewhere - RRs share a lot of BMW components, have you tried a google search for the error codes?

Hello All
Many thanks for your helpful hints! I was not aware that airbags were for the life of the car (Twit that I am) but that is one worry less.
I shall have a rake around under the seat to see if that does anything and then try the BMW fault codes route.
I am as cynical as the next man about the cars having BMW underpinnings but fans of the cars will have none of it!
If I were building the car I would stick a 750i lump in it (bespoke rocker covers), job done. If you read about the build this seems not to be the case (?).
Thanks again all, will advise of any progress.
Regards,
John.

The engine is not used elsewhere in the BMW range, but the electronics are used cross-platform...just look at the key wink
