Gt headlight washers stopped working
Discussion
They are an MOT requirement (if fitted ) and have stopped working .
I have found the fuse it's a 15 A blade in the scuttle fuse box ,new one blew .
Apparently there's a relay in there too .Have not touched this .
Was thinking if they have not been used for a while maybe that's some how sticking ?
Or pump,s gone ---if so where is it ?
Any body changed one ?
Any idea s ?
I realise there's a 1 in 6 function with headlights on etc and the screen washers work as they should .
Thx in advance guys

Hi Fiammenta.
The pump is behind the rear part of the right front wing wheel arch liner.
The reservoir is in there too and the pump is the top one of two, the other one being the screen wash pump.
I recently changed mine as it had become very loud and weak. Got it off eBay.
The headlamp wash will work every time you wash the screen when the headlights are on. It's not every 6th time like some other cars. They give 2 separate squirts each time.
Hope that's of some help and good luck.
Les.

I fitted the new pump .
Engine on head lights on
It worked once ,after 6 pulls the stalks came out the new motor ran- no water .
I suspected it just needed to re charge water as the pipes would be dry .strange the stalks came out but no water though as the water pressure supose to push em out -unless air purging ?
Fuse is not blown
Before with the old pump any new fuse just blew .Now it does not .
So we know fuse is ok .
12 v got to the new pump once
So I suspect the relays stuck
I know where it is ( in the fuse box under the scuttle near side ) .
Q does anybody know what part it is ,where I can get a new headlight washer relay from .
( Ps the old pump is knackered -does not turn with 12 v )
Googling it has not worked ,or should I just pop to a Audi /VW garage or ring Bentley ?

Seems like a daft question - but have you blown the pipes through. Had a similar issue when fitting a new washer pump (admittedly not on a Bentley) and sediment had settled in the bottom of the tank which got dragged into the pipes and blocked them up.
quick blow through and all worked fine.

No ,I have blown the pipes .
That's would make sence though .
Another clue there was dryed crud ( malfunction pump ) in the exit pipe of it when I took it off .
I have pulled the stalks out .finger nails round the edge and pull .Remember they are spring loaded IN and water pressure from the pump is enough to overcome the closed resting spring pressure .
When I did that I could see damp kinda leakage /seeping from the housing looking into the hole .
So water or crud has been pushed up the end ?
Thx I will try that some how clear lines .

Took the relay to the local Audi garage ,as it's a 12v 40 W covered in VW /Audi logos .
It's the same as the e hood on a A4 cab , they stocked them .
Btw -- parts chap said they used to be able to x refference the part No ,s for Bentley stuff .
To access A8 and Pheaton common parts which lets not kid ourselves 90 % of the mucky stuffout of sight is .A good thing BTW --German
But recently that function ,s been taken off the system .
The only way now is actually bring the part in .A relay was easy to match .
You have been warned ,another example is Cayeene /Toureg stuff .
Any how they now pop out after 6 pulls -do a twice dance ,but no water ,one can here the 2nd deeper niose of the high pressure HL pump .
So I removed the twin nozzle of the nearide ( furthest away from the bottle /pump )
Water spurted out 3 M .
After much trying to unblock I gave up and placed an order from Flying spares £30 each for new LHS and RHS nozzles .
The pipe work ,works up to the nozzles /jets
To get them off finger nail prise them out ,use a hose clamp in a grove to lock on to tube and keep them out against there spring tension .
Then undo the clip ,slip em off .
The plastic bumper cover just unclips -use that again .
So far £80 for the pump
£18 for the relay
£70 for the new jets. -all inc postage .
I feel they have not worked for a while ?
Labour me free ---- oh what a joy DIY ing a Conti GT
With the blocked old ones I will attemp to refurb /unblock ---- got a seeking suspicion this could be a recurrent issue !
Let you know how I get on when the parts arrive

On the jets, there is a round plastic part about an inch in diameter, inside that is a rubber diaphragm and a spring holding the diaphragm shut.
The water pressure forces them open and allows water to the jet nozzles. I think it's these rubber diaphragm's that become hard or perished.
There is also a way of purging the jets after work has been carried out, as per IETIS. This entails using the dealer diagnostics machine, but, I am sure filling the reservoir and washing the screen a few times with the lights on should do the trick.
Be careful fitting the new jets. I broke one of the retractable pipes doing mine, it simply snapped in half and now needs the bumper and right wing/fender taking off the fit the new part.
Good luck with it.

Update .
Fitted the new jets but alas they don,t work either .
They come out (6 th )pull with the lights on ,can hear the pump .
I cycled it 4 times ,covered the roof etc with wash from the screen wash .
They only seemed to pop out when the motor runs twice for about 2-3 seconds .
I,am wondering if that's not enough time for pressure to build up to shift that "diaphragm "
I have given up now unless anybody has any ideas ?
Maybe it just needs a few more cycles -? But I will do it with the car moving properly at night .
MOT due Nov. I'll take it to a Bentley specialist who as the VAG com computer to re-set /adjust the parameters --thinking pump run time needs increasing to pressure them up more .
Strange how they pop out though -enough pressure for that !
Without the jets fitted its like Sean Connerys DB5 two machine guns pop out of the bumper ,
But squirt water 2-3 M , Goldfinger would have cracked up seeing water pistols
