I am looking to fit new TPMS units when I change tyres as I don't know how old the existing ones are (and I don't want
the hassle of stripping tyres off again!) I looked at Flying Spares and, with tax and postage etc, they come to just under £400.
There are adverts on eBay for less expensive ones but I don't know how good they would be.
Does anybody have any experience in this area?

Hello Chris - it certainly is quiet - The TPMS is a blooming nuisance. The batteries run out, and the TPMS then needs replacing. This is a regular occurrence, but frequency varies - I've heard of failure every 4 years. I've given up on them and rely on a visual tyre inspection from time to time.
As to whether you could use an E-Bay alternative, I pass. I guess the key is in the compatibility between the sender in the valve and the receiver (where ever that is).
Good luck - tell us what you discover.

Well, I finally changed my wheels and tyres and fitted new tpms unit as well.
Wheels and tpms units from Flying Spares. Top company and I would recommend them to everybody.
The tpms sorted itself before I left the workshops and no need for programming at all.
Tyres (Pirelli PZeros [B1]) came from Camskills at a very competitive price.
Happy boy at the moment.

I believe TPMS are a statutary now and on newer cars, post 2012, an mot failure if they dont work. It appears the internal batteries have a battery life circa 5-8 years. I purchased one for a Sprinter van we have off ebay, didnt work. My advice is purchase off a source where you can send them back if need be. TBH the whole idea stinks of nanny state meddling imo
