Hi there

I've just returned from a test drive in a Supersports and I have a question about the volume of the exhaust.

When the dealer started up the car whilst I sat in the drivers seat with the door open - I couldn't believe how loud it was. Like a race car. Then on the drive I found the volume between 1.5k to 2k RPM resonated within the cabin at quite an aggressive volume (very booming). Then when pushing on the noise started rattling some internal panels.

I find it hard to accept that this is normal for such a prestigious brand. I fully appreciate this is a race derivative of this model but it immediately felt like it was noise I could not live with.

Now I currently drive a v12 Vantage. Its a loud car but positively silent in comparison.

On the way home I concluded in my head that the previous owner must have either changed the exhaust? or de-catted ? / straight pipes? Do these seem reasonable conclusions? do people really do this to a Bentley? - or is the exhaust really as loud as I experienced ?

Your thoughts are much appreciated.

I heard a Supersport with an aftermarket exhaust at my Indie in Crewe a while back. It was loud for sure.
In case you are in that general area, Cheshire, the car was silver. Could be the same one.
Mine has the exhaust flap mod but it doesn't resonate in any rev range.
I do know that the exhaust on that particular car came from another car who's owner thought it a bit too loud to live with.
Hope that helps.

I have a supersport with a stock exhaust, it pops and crackles like a race car on start up, for about 30 seconds.

It has got a boom note to it and yes you can hear it in the cabin.

The SS is a different custard to GT's so I think you need to expect this from a car that was Bentleys attempt at being light weight and sporty.

I use mine as an everyday car and must say luv it. It definitely has a sense of occasion and is LOUD smile

Have owned 3 of these fantastic cars and im sure the car you have tested must have a aftermarket exhaust fitted, the supersport is not a noisy car its more of a boom sound, however i fitted a quicksilver backbox to one of my cars and it was hideous my wife refused to go in it.Get car checked out to see if exhaust has been changed would be my advice.

hope this helps simon
