I have spent the last week touring in Connemara, and it has been a pleasure. The roads are not busy and the scenery is fabulous. You have to watch out for tourist coaches on narrow roads. We stayed in Clifden at the Alcock and Brown hotel. This is not super luxurious, rather a good value budget hotel. But it is smack in the middle of town, so very convenient. The hotel has no parking, but you can use the basement car park of the supermarket across the road.
Clifden is big on tourism, with plenty from France and Germany. Restaurants offer a lot of fish, and it gets a bit repetitive after a few days. The Signal Bar at the Station House hotel does a daily roast - todays beef was excellent. There is no fine dining in Clifden, and although Mitchells thinks it is top-knotch we didn't go much on it.
Bars tend to be noisy and unpleasant. Sit outside or take refuge in the A&B which is more civilised. Haven't seen another Bentley all week, but have had favourable comments on my GT. There is very little high octane fuel on sale - you have to make do with 95 unless in a city.
Happy motoring!

Glad you are enjoying trip , you have been blessed with weather !
Yes , aside from Greater Dublin are - Bentleys would be a rare sight ( road tax and tax on such vehicles is very high)

Been surprised by your comments on pubs as Irelands pubs are considered one of its biggest attractions ?
They tend to be of a high standard , I assume you just don't like music and/ or busy places ? Wouldn't want ph'ers getting impression our great pubs are terrible when the opposite would be true for most people.

Was in my local early on Friday evening , middle aged couple from Kent came in and were delighted to find a singsong in progress and all for the price of a pint !

No reflection on Irish bars intended - it's just the Clifden bars that seemed rather down market.

no probs ! you could be right - haven't been to that part of country for quite a while - the pubs are probably trying to appeal to American type tourists by being old fashioned/ traditional.

Have you been told about the background of the people Alcock and Brown - to which the hotel was named in honour of ? interesting !
