Bentley Brooklands

I though you may like to see some details of my newly acquired 2009 model Brooklands, one of only 71 RHD manufactured.
The colour is Grey Violet, one of only 3 painted in this colour. The leather is Linen and the veneers are Olive Ash. It is in mint condition, has low miles, most of the bells and whistles and drives superbly.

Beautiful wood.
It's interesting how grain and colour interact. I like dark colours with a busy grain (such as the dark Walnut burl), but not with a straight grain (such as Rosewood or Zebrawood).
However, in the light colours, a simpler grain (such as your Ash) looks smashing, whereas the more common Bird's Eye Maple looks too fussy.

Fantastic - it's the only Bentley produced under VW I find I genuinely love.
Only problem is I think they got the name wrong - Continental was always the name given to the ultimate, most exclusive and most expensive Bentleys - ie. the Brooklands. Unfortunately they had already given the GT this name.
The only other issue is I feel they compromised the looks, just a little, in order to give rear passengers some additional headroom. I think the Continental R was better proportioned in this respect.
Still...very jealous!

Zebrano and rosewood are non starters in my opinion but many of the rest show considerable variation. I had the pleasure of buying veneers over an extended period in small bundles (generally twenty at a time)and finding what was needed meant searching down through entire stacks. Quite often one would stand out spectacularly from the rest and I'd buy it just for myself. Birds eye maple has some unique qualities but just sometimes you come across some that flashes green, gold and purple. Oak sometimes shows deep reds and elm can vary from red to yellow to brown with every possible variation in pattern from the normal cat's paws to those that have none.It's interesting how grain and colour interact. You have to see a veneer before you can judge it as a simpler grain. Burr walnut may have a complicated pattern but look flat. Lighter woods like this may exhibit the most unbelievable lustre giving it a 3d or shimmer effect where a slight difference in viewing angles changes dark parts to light and lights parts to dark in an instant.

As for pix, I notice that after I upload a pix, it comes up with a url.....
So, once done, I press ENTER a couple of times and then re- do the upload process...and keep doing it until I have loaded a few pix...then Preview/ Submit it...
Look forward to some more pix...maybe on your travels to exotic places too....

The original owner specced it to a considerable degree re the colour combination:
The build program was extended by 15 weeks to cater for specially woven carpets to the cabin and boot in Aubergine. Ditto the stitching to doors and seats. Aubergine to top roll and secondary hide, two tone steering wheel, interior rear view mirror, etc,etc.
530 BHP and 774 ft lbs of shove, I have to be a little careful with my right foot !!
Original cost over £260K, but shouldn't drop much now !
