Boxing Day, approx. 10.30am driving out from Leek. Saw it from a mile off and couldn't really believe it. I had read one report that said pictures don't do it justice and I thoroughly concur: it looked far less brash in the flesh and visually smaller than a FFRR. It was in a lovely ingot type colour and looked very lustrous. I don't have a spare 250k knocking about for a family Bentley but I won't be at all surprised at it being a smash hit. Would love to smother the Peaks in one!

Living in south Cheshire, I must have seen at least 25-30 of them being test driven around the lanes of Crewe and Nantwich over the last few weeks.

Believe me when I say that in the flesh are are just as hideous and ugly as you might imagine.

see Tom Hartley has a new vehicle advertised for £265k ! list is about £165k but assume this car has extras too. Even so its unusual for a 4X4 or a Bentley to sell for over list.

What do people make of them having seem them in flesh ? seem to get good press reviews .

Think a half-decently specced First Edition won't give you much change from £225k and possibly as much as 250k. Having seen a few in the flesh I'd say the looks are heavily dependent on colour choice and whether you bling it up with all the silver mesh work at the front. In darker colours and without the bling they look pretty good to my eye, though by no means lovely. The interior is a fantastic and the test drive I took was eye-opening in terms of the power and ride quality. That said, I can't see these things commanding any kind of premium for more than the first handful of cars.

Jct had two new cars in their showroom a few weeks ago, a big spec car at £197k and another at £170k.

In a world where mk1 Cayennes still roam around, BMW put out X6s and X1's, Mercedes follow suit and Audi ruin their Q7... the Bentayga still looks monumentally awful, IMO.
So it appears the new normal is awful, Maserati about to join the party with something half arsed... who knows what Alfa's SUV will look like but it leaves only Range Rover and Jaguar to understand how to transfer family looks to a truck, with any degree of success (and Range Rover started it all so have had a MASSIVE head start).

was never a fan of the original Q7 but like latest one . The fact that the Bentayga is based on it means it lacks the pedigree ( not sure that's right word) of the Range Rover.

Agreed, if you want one wait until they're two years old and sifted through, plus save at least 25% off retail too.

It's a fine looking car and makes the Range Rover appear vastly overpriced.

Hmm, believe you have that a bit backwards.

On the styling, my personal opinion - Looks ok from the back - quite like it actually.

Looks Ok in profile too.

But what happened at the front?????? it's all droopy and sad. I've seen them in photographs and I've seen them in the flesh, including on the M6 the other day. It is VERY poorly proportioned. And just plain ugly - I couldn't own one, it would annoy me every time I looked at its sad face.

Furthermore, it doesn't disguise it's platform origins well enough, in my view, because the overall proportions and even body shape is awfully similar to the Audi Q7 family. And I think that it really should be better than that.

No doubt the shape makes for good aerodynamics - but I think that should be a secondary concern - it's a £165K Bentley and it shouldn't sacrifice proportions to gain 2mpg or something.

Finally, the name Bentayga is just silly.

agree it doesn't hide its links to Q7 enough and don't forget £165k doesn't seem to be the price these end up costing.
Would be good if Porsche made a 4x4 to go above Cayenne.

I saw one on the road for the first time yesterday. Not quite as bad as I thought it was gong to be.

I suspect it will be a grower. Not sure it warrants the premium over a Range Rover AB though

Do you know how much it costs to spec a decent Range Rover? The standard wheelbase car has no rear leg room and by the time you've added a few options prices of around £130k are quite normal so no, I don't believe I have it backwards.

The range rover does not have that awesome w12 engine either, believe me it drives like no other 4x4 but not 250k worth,i will wait untill car gets down to around 100k which i reckon will be in less than 2 years or i will eat my hat.

Well then Byteme, am sure you're going right out and buying one because the Bentley Bodega is such a bargain. Or wait about three years and get it at around 40% off with a low miles example that has never seen off-road use. I'd still rather have a Rover for proper use and not just footballer cruising.

Unless you are a footballer, then you had better get one now and start adding custom rims, tinting and a proper stereo/video system as you're already late to the game. Go on now, run along.
