Before anyone jumps to conclusions - I know it's nothing to do with air conditioning, rather something to do with the gearbox.

Unfortunately, my owners handbook is ever so slightly later than my car after they had deleted this button and replaced it with traction control on/off button.

"Manual" comes up on the dot-matrix screen when the button is selected.

Anyone enlighten me?

I'd imagine it puts the gearbox in 'snow' mode and tries to pull away in second or similar.

It cuts out the first gear and pulls away in second, it was introduced with the four speed box for 92MY and was superseded by traction control on turbo charged cars in 97MY. IIRC

Thanks for that - a basic traction control.

Tried it out in the snow on Boxing day.
