Can you plug a battery trickle charger, into the 12v cigar socket in the boot? Or do you need the Bentley style adaptor to plug it into the dedicated socket?

I have successfully used it in the past, but closing the boot on the lead marks the rubber seal. I believe the boot needs to be closed to extinguish the boot light.

I picked up one of the adaptors on Ebay and soldered it onto my Ctek charger, so I now use the exterior magnetic connector.

The Bentley branded charger is a Ctek at double the price.

Hi.
The 12v socket in the boot will not recharge your battery as it is ignition live, so when the vehicles ignition is not on it is dead.

You can go direct to the battery, however, you may find that brings it own challenges as it can cause the car not to shut down all the electrical systems correctly.

The recommended way, and the safest, is to wire the battery conditioner via the battery management system. If the vehicle is not being used on a regular basis, I would always recommend a conditioner be used as the battery go go flat very quickly.

I hope the above helps.

The cigar lighter socket in my GT accepts the trickle charger with the ignition off, while parked in my garage.

I think that I am going for the record of how many times that having driven out of the garage with the charger still connect to the boot magnetic plug and for it still to work afterwards - 4 times so far!

Only once for me.
Now I position the charger at the drivers door so that I have to step over it to get in the car, the nice big long leads allow you to do this.

Mine is even more basic - having done this in preious cars many times... A piece of card, with the word 'Charging' scrawled across it... put it on your seat or by the gearstick when charging - and it reminds you when you get into the car... talk about hi-tech! Probably the cheapest fix you will ever get with a Bentley!

I've just been looking up the initialising of windows in my handbook, and happened to come across a paragraph that said that the 'cigar lighters' including the one in the boot are live at all times, and are not reliant on the ignition being switched on.
