I remember going to these days at Castle Ashby and Althorp with my Mum Dad and sister long ago when I was a boy they were amazing days out, originally coming from the east end our picnic of sausage rolls and ham sandwiches served with a warm can of coke looked pretty naff next to the strawberries and champagne but none the less we all enjoyed our days out.
Its been about 23 years since the Rolls Royce has had an outing like that so next year was hoping to go along if they still do these days? . I am not a member of the RREC but was hoping that some of you on here may have some info with the dates and do I need to be a member to go for the day or weekend?
Thanks in advance.

Rod, you really need to be a member.
I joined before i got my Spirit, and went to the Southern Area Annual when it was at Charterhouse school,( there is also a northern area one, as well as the National) I was asked what Royce i had, and when i mentioned i hadnt got one yet, was told i could attend but must park my car( Volvo) behind the hedge, out of sight!!! AND they were not joking
I will say that they are a good day out to look at the cars, if you can ignore the owners braying at each other, and discussing their social climbing abilities. You might be able to go if you are not a memeber, but i would lay the 'i am thinking about buying one line' without disclosing your budget!!! when checking with a contact
If you are in the market, the club sends out a monthly Advertiser, if you want one to browse through just email me

Still happens, but not as grandiose as it was with fewer cars on show (but still typically 500+).
Plenty of non-members attend, although it is less expensive for club member's who register and pay in advance.
Non-RR/B do have separate parking, but not really hidden out of sight.
Dates and location shown here: http://www.rrec-northeast.co.uk/rrec_ne_003.htm

I've been a member for 11 years now and have been to almost all of the Annual Rally's since then. I've never witnessed any 'braying' or 'social climbing'. Perhaps I've not looked hard enough! I'm a fellow Eastender with a Shadow and Bentley S3 and have only come across a friendly, albeit slightly anoraky, group of people! My wife is bored senseless when she goes and so are the kids, but I'm having a good time, which is what matters!
I was parked with an Aston and a Jag at Charterhouse, and it was behind a hedge.
As regards the braying, perhaps i might well have struck unlucky at the first car i looked at that day, but, the socialising/cliqueyness was very much apparent, and anything post 65 was looked down on,as they dont have a chassis. HOWEVER, i have attend several seminars at Hunt house, and you do tend to meet a different type of owner at them.Ones who are more interested in the mechanics and hands on side of things. I could read and rereas Michael Forrests articles on his rebuilding of a Phanton. A look at some of the section reports remind me of a nineteen thirties country house weekend, with Fancy dress parties, etc. but each to their own.

Thank you for all the reply's - top people of PH.
Unfortunately the Shadow has a problem with its brakes at the moment and I am flat out with a building project hopefully over the winter I can fix or get the problem sorted and ill be along to a few events ,providing I can get the car back on the road.
Once again many thanks.

The absolute rule then was that all exhibitors had a fire extinguisher available for immediate use and what could make better sense when exhibiting cars on dry grass? I've rarely seen that enforced at other car shows. Its been about 23 years since the Rolls Royce has had an outing like that so next year was hoping to go along if they still do these days? . I have to agree with silverfoxcc to a large extent, these events were tainted by pomposity. That said, any large gathering of coach-built Rolls-Royce motor cars is always worth attending.
