Well she must be a Lady as she sips and doesn't guzzle....

I went to see my folks today in the GT so my daughter could have some nanny and granddad time. I had a very relaxing drive - 4miles of town driving with 70miles on the motorway (each way) and achieved 21.9mpg!!!!!! Gobsmacked and well impressed to be getting that from such a beast of an engine.

Normally get between 8-12mpg when pottering around town or enjoying the country lanes.

So who else has achieved such a good mpg in their Bentley or RR??

I often drive from central Birmingham to North Shropshire - about 5 miles of urban followed by 40 miles of motorway and then 15 miles of rural B roads - I can get around 22 on this journey in the '96 Continental R, driving reasonably quickly.

When I first had the car I thought there was something wrong with it! I had been expecting 15-18 on such a journey.

Like Matt, i also get about 22-23mpg from my 1998 Continental R, a mixture of fluid town driving and motorways... Always at a fairly brisk pace :-)

I was pleasantly surprised... i guess it is about managing expectation.

Try any harder and it will be cheaper to take the Learjet.

I have the V8 and I am averaging 20mpg after 4000 miles of reasonably spirited driving! I borrowed a GT speed for a few days and averaged 12mpg for the same types of journeys.

That's just wrong in a Bentley ;0)

When I popped back to the main dealer to collect the trickle charger I got talking to a chap who had just bought a V8 and they had put a bespoke performance exhaust on it - it sounded amazing; much sportier and less refined than the W12 but it certainly gave it a different identity. It will be interesting to see if the V8s stand te test of time/depreciation better than the W12.

Bought a gtc v8 last week, seems to be averaging around 19 mpg..sounds great too. Can't see why anyone would favour the w12 over the v8.

The W12 is more refined; huge amounts of power on reserve; supr smooth delivery; sounds silky yet aggressive. I'm not knocking the v8 but I wouldn't buy one as I don't think it suits the car as well; and let's be honest who really cares about mpg when driving one of these? Ok if I were only getting 8 mpg all the time it would be tiresome as long journeys would be hampered with fuel stops! That said I managed to get 5.5mpg on Friday and found that even more satisfying than the almost 22mpg when I created this thread :0)

Have you ever driven the W12 Supersports? It's effortless and will eat the new V8 all day long, something to favour in a W12 IMO. Who gives a hoot about MPG in these cars anyway???? Also think that the V8 sounds too much like an AMG Merc... just my opinion wink

I'm jealous of the road trip - I think some photos of your car in the beautiful scenery are necessary to show us what we are all missing out on!

But 34mpg??? Did you spend most of your journey on a trailer or train and do man maths to calculate mpg ;0)
That is some seriously good mpg for such a big car:- damn impressive and put my 11mpg I've had today out of mine whilst we were ducking down single track lanes looking for a new abode! Mind you I did enjoy the journey except for the tight passing points.

No, was actually 34.6 to be precise. Drove down to bologna today with a bit more gusto and still returned 31mpg.
Leaving for sorrento in the morning for a week in a villa then drive back up to nice then Monaco for a couple of nights then back to good ole blighty.
Car has been epic so far.
