Hi all,
a friend is looking to buy a 70k mile 10 year old for £27,000
If it goes bang what's it going to cost to fix he asked me , I suggested that a post on pistonheads would bring some credible answers whether to cover by aftermarket warranty and major dealers have service plans for older vehicle .
As the car is being bought privately really looking to minimise the risk
Which independents or majors for servicing or are there maintenance plans available.
cheers
guys and girls.

Thanks for the info, how would you mitigate against this issue of complication and huge bills. I know for instance with Porsche independent garages offer service plans and Nissan gtr ownership through Litchfield you can buy a warranty.
if a 7 year old Bentley was purchased would this help, how long do Bentley warranty their used cars for.is it on mileage and years, and why would it be difficult to purchase the parts?

If you are buying the car privately, make sure you get it inspected by a Bentley main dealer before you do the deal. Only he will have access to Bentley software, which is necessary to keep these cars in good nick. If you buy it, and then get it inspected, you might have to put your hand in your pocket. This is not intended to knock the independents, most of whom are highly regarded, especially for cars with less computerisation.

You need to know that the service schedule has been followed to the letter.

Has the rear stop lamp/windscreen been replaced? Has the tyre pressure warning system failed and/or been replaced. Is it on the right tyres - if they are ....101Y they are probably not the right ones. (Do you have 19 inch wheels?. Does it have a working Navtrak system?

As far as the engine and transmission is concerned, you should feel fairly relaxed. The 4-wheel drive system is from Audi Quatro and is well tried and tested. The engine is built with latest design and materials in mind, and is regarded as bulletproof, even when chipped, up to 750 BHP.

If your car is to live outside, you will need to keep various drain holes clear of debris, leaf detritus and insects, or else you will get water in the passenger side footwell (which is rich in ignition related electronics). The main problem is an invisible drain hole beneath the windscreen. The only way to keep this clear is (a) to remove the unnecessary one way valve and (b)occasionally wave a wand of compressed air around to blow the crap out.

If you are not going to use the car at least once a week, you will need to plug a battery conditioner into the power socket high up in the boot on the left hand side.

And as for phones............

Finally, join the Bentley Drivers Club for friendship, social outings and potentially useful technical help. BDC is getting much more in tune with the GT family, and I am sure you'd be welcome.
