Hi, I am looking for opinions on this car:

Let’s say it’s in really nice condition (not immaculate) with a little overall patina. But not suffering corrosion, miss-matched paintwork, or signs of poor paint/rust rectification.
Let’s imagine the service history is pretty good with lots of invoices to go with the service stamps and evidence of genuine mileage.
All the electrics work as they should and it’s a lovely drive…..

Is it worth £10k? I only ask this, as the car is not for sale at a specialist garage, in fact the garage is not even a classic/specialist car garage…. And I am not interested in any wedding hire business it may (or may not) have attached to it?

I also notice (from another thread on here) that Silver paintwork and grey leather are not desirable on these cars – and this car combines both. Having said that, I like the colour scheme!

I am going to look at the car – and my thought is – If it is a lovely car, drives right, had a good history and doesn't appear to be rotten. Then I will offer him £8k and if he says no, then ask him to call me if in a months time or so, he reconsiders??

I've seen far worse colours on Spirits than silver (and not sure I've seen a silver one), and what's wrong with silver anyway. I know a lot of people prefer the dark colours, but if you like it.... I agree resale is a consideration, but who I suspect most buyers of 20 year old cars would be more concerned with condition rather than colour although I wasn't too keen on the purple Cornich I saw smile

If the car's right, I wouldn't be too concerned about whether a specialist is selling it or not - at the right price you can use the dealer's 'margin' to cover unforseen eventualities. I've seen a few good wedding cars, but plenty of horrors.

Spend 300.00 on a R-R specialist to give it a good going over. Then decide

Thanks for the feedback - I imagine that the car has not been up in the air and fully inspected by the dealer. And a specialist check is wise.... Anyone know any specialists in the West Sussex area?

Richard, there are several in the south of england. and i would expect all would be willing to travel to see the car. my guy went from Nottingham to Chester!!!
If you havent seen the car, check the service records and chat to them.
Insist on a Specialist exam, if he hums and harrs Walk...no RUN away
I know what is tired on mine and would point it out, esp on a private sale buyer beware no guarantee implied/given etc,
Here endeth the egg sucking lesson

having been used in the "carriage trade" is not a good sign. By definition, it's a business which focusses on appearance alone. Not many wedding-hire cas are in good mechanical condition.

I would be very careful to take it on a decent ( i.e. more than 100 miles ) test drive with four people and some luggage

Again, thank you for the information - I think (as the car is very local to me) i will go and pay the car a visit and check out the service history. If i like what i see and like the dealer i will approach Taylors of Chichester - as they are only a 15, or so, miles away.
