On Tuesday I picked op a stone chip in the windscreen of my 2004 Continental GT. Unfortunately, the chip is a double barrel job, with two chips within 3 cm of each other. Consequently it is not repairable, and I need a new screen. Trinity Lane, my insurers, cover the first £1,000 and Autowindscreens, their chosen repairer want me to pay and additional £1,374.50. I phoned around for some check prices and when Autoglass quoted me £7,000 I decided to proceed via my insurers.

Seasons Greetings,
David.

Sheesh! I'd leave it until MoT time, just in case you got another....

Can't be many years before a cracked windscreen on one of these = write off.....

Just out of interest... why so expensive? Isnt a windscreen just a windscreen, in a different shape?

biggrin

My pal was a manager at a jeans factory. Same garments off the same line..

...a certain designer label added & the retail was 4 x

Not saying that's the whole story re the 'screen, but might be a factor. Would low volume also make 'em more pricey?

Yep! That's what I came up with (unless we are missing something about this particular car). £1680 incl. VAT. Go via insurance and £680. Job done!

Seasons greetings. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves yesterday. The cost of my replacement screen went as predicted. Trinity Lane coughed up £910 (£1,000 less my £90 excess) and I paid £1,374.50 (£2,284.50 total)

I know the Bentley main dealers supplying the screen charged about £1700 for it, including the VAT.

Today I have received an invoice for £3,023.98 from Auto Windscreens. This included VAT and my £90 excess so I guess they are looking for more money from me. Needless to say, having told me that I would only have to pay £1,374.50, and having paid it, I will be resisting further requests for money.

Happy New Year or what!

I have done 2 Bentley windscreens in the last couple of years. One on a Continental R which was covered by Footman James and one on an Arnage covered by Loctons. Both were done by National Windscreens with factory supplied windscreens for the £50 excess.
Time to change your insurers!
