GTC passenger inside door handle not working

Hello all,

The other day I gave one of my sons friends a lift home, he gets in the car, opens the window and throws up all over the door and outside of the car!!!

Now, I get home and clean it and today decided to take the door panel off to clean up any sick that got inside. I watched a video on youtube how to remove the door panel and everything was fine, reversed the procedure to put it back on and now the door handle won't work when sitting iside the vehicle. I made sure that I clipped the hook back on to the mechanism but the cable seems to have a little more slack than it did before.

What have I done wrong?

I hadn't put the plastic cable housing for the door latch back into its holder, or I had but it had fallen out when putting the panel back on.
