Sirs,

I have recently purchased a Brooklands R Mulliner. I have scoured the net for reference to any press articles or brochures which were produced when the car was new, but can find nothing.

I have plenty which is general Turbo R, but nothing Mulliner specific. Any leads would be much appreciated...

Cheers,

Edward

A great car, we owned one when they were new, list price was 125k and they produced 100 cars. They all had a 325bhp engine as opposed to the 300 bhp engine found in the brooklands R. Each and every car had a large A3 presentation pack detailing the specification for your own car, but most owners kept these ( I still have mine!) when they sold the car as a momento, out of interest what number is your car as it looks identical to ours.
The pack was interesting as it gave detailed sketches and performance figures as well as the individual items that made up the mulliner spec, we had ours for 3 years so please feel free to ask any questions, interestingly my original car come up for sale at the Bonhams auction at Rockingham 2 years ago and I took my kids down to see it as they had both been collected from hospital when they were born in that car ,with the intention of buying it back, however when we arrived there was a sign on the car saying she had suffered head gasket failure on the way down to Rockingham and was now being sold as a non runner ! I was saddened as she was in a bit of a s orry state. If I ever saw another low mileage good history car I might be tempted as they were so nice, Enjoy!

Great to hear there is a brochure out there, even if I might struggle to find one!

Mine is car no. 52. Do you recall if any of the magazines drove one when they were new?

I don't remember any reviews on them new, the brochures occasionally come up on ebay, but are sought after and make about £80 - £100 they will perform better and be more reliable if driven as they hate being sat in the garage, we are away for the summer but I will photo the brochure and email the pics if you want

The factory didn't produced any sales literature for this car, as has been said each new owner had a presentation pack. The dealer I worked for used one of these to make copies as a mailer to promote the cars. I still have one of these somewhere and if you wish I could scan it and email it to you, it's based on a Sherwood Green car. It was claimed that the added value of the extra items fitted over and above a standard Brooklands R would have brought the list price up to £138000, the retail price was £119950. It was effectively the run out model and the only new cars we had to sell whilst the new production line for Seraph/Arnage was installed at Crewe and those cars came in February/April 1998. From stuff I have just found, as well as the LWB and 325 BHP engine, those items included

Green enamelled badges and Mulliner badge to boot lid.
18 inch single spokelet alloy wheels.
Styled wing vents with bright mesh.
Body colour door mirrors and supports.
Oval exhaust pipe.
Chrome bezels to instruments.
Perforated hide on sports steering wheel.
Dark stained burr walnut veneer.
Drilled pedals.
Bentley wings on head restraints.
Cargo nets to rear of seats.
Contrasting twin stitching to seats.
Chrome topped gear lever.
Numbered plaque to audio system cover.

I'm sure there's a few more items but those are the major ones, I would have to find the renderings to confirm what they were.

Always a great source of information for Silver Shadow derivatives and later cars:
