I am looking to change my beloved conti gt for a four door: although a second "leisure" car, given we had a third child, I really NEVER use it any more for longer drives ( with family).
Am tempted to trade up for an Arnage ( face lifted).... Whilst a recent full auto gearbox Quattroporte or new shape Jag XJ ( even supercharged) seem such good value for money .....thoughts?

QP, IMHO, is the best looking of that lot, of course I'd have to go SMG versus Automatica. But then again, you're getting advice from a guy who would *like* to tell you to forget all that modern lot and get a Turbo R wink

P.S.

I have split daily driver duties betwixt a Jag XJR and a few different Turbo Rs for the past several years. Although its no Bentley, the XJR is a marvelous machine. My XJR, by the way, is the X308 chassis--last of the long, low, sleek kitties.

Thank you...we must have quite similar car tastes.... I love the old shape Jag XJ ( used to have series 3 in BRG).....and i used to love the Turbo R, was convinced to buy one, one day....but somehow the "affordable" ! Modern, über capable Conti GT was launched which made me stop lusting aft the too old school Turbo R.... Looking at car pages though an old turbo r in racing teen and red leather.......
If I follow your recommendation, might even consider keeping the conti gt and for a 15k budget looking for an older QP or Jag XJR.......or turbo r!
Rather then making one "rational" upgrade for an extra cost, I now have started to fantasize about just extending the fleet....

See, now you're speaking the right language. I just sold an '89 Turbo R, which was my fourth one of the beasts, and am now in the process of acquiring a lovely Navy Blue '91 model. I'm not sure what part of the globe you're in, but here in the States, Turbo Rs aren't quite as cheap as in Britain. Then again, fuel isn't as expensive here wink

You should sell the GT, get a Turbo R for old school's sake, then get a nice, low mile XJR for daily duties.

Live in London, UK where indeed secondhand Bentleys (any one, old or new) are priced pretty attractive compared to rest of world. You do not seem to have a liking for the Arnage- although less typical then a Turbo R and less daily driver then a Jag XJ, given this is my second car anyway- I might be tempted by an Arnage.
I only have one garage space ( much needed to keep a car in the city) , so buying two cars ( to replace my second car anyway) is bit difficult. Was thinking that a post facelift 2005 model onwards Arnage would be old school enough, whilst keeping some of the Conti GT creature comforts. As single car, a Jag XJ might not be special enough coming out of conti gt and a Turbo R maybe too old school, albeit cool.

In February I bought an Arnage T . I had a Continental R and a QP. I have yet to sell the "R" but I swapped the QP for a Mazda MX5 as I did not need 2 170mph cars with 4 doors. As a hobby car the Arnage is preferable with a far better build quality and solidity than the QP. The Qp is a real looker but the Bentley has more presence when driving.

Oh and the MX5 is brilliant in this weather!

Would have loved this one if price would be more realistic...

I can highly recommend Derek. He only deals in the best. I have no connection whatsoever with his business other than once having sold a car to him. I travel between Scotland and London every week and I didn't have the time to do so myself. He's an absolute gentleman to deal with.
