Bentley T1 question . . .

A friend has a Bentley T1 and he tells me there is a metal pipe that runs from the exhaust manifold to the inlet manifold - can anyone tell me the purpose of this pipe?

I'm not familiar with the pipe in question, but it's going to be only one of a couple of things :-

heat riser for automatic choke mechanism, providing a supply of heat to "back off" the choke after cold start

heat riser to prevent throttle icing.

the c ar is way too old for EGR, mind.
