Hello , thinking of a GT
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm a regular PH member , I recently owned a highly modded 996 911tt for 6 years sold it in October and bought an Escort RS Cosworth..... no difference there then. It isn't floating my boat tbh and might have to go if I cant persuade the other half to let me keep it as a Classic.
I used to do a lot of the 911 maintenance myself and own a Porsche System Tester 2 and would like to continue the trend with the Bentley.
I have a few questions about the Continental GT so if anyone could help I would appreciate the input.
1. Can you buy a similar system code reader and diagnostic unit for the Bentley which is similar the the " Durametric " unit for Porsches http://www.durametric.com/default.aspx
2. Are there any recognised faults to be aware of , for eg a 996 911 3.6 Carrera suffers from IMS failures. A 911 996tt can suffer from corrosion of the turbos and engine bright work.
3. Can 2 adults actually sit in the back comfortably ( primary reason for selling the 911)
Any insight and help is appreciated.
Frank

1. VAG COM
2. Third brake light on 2005 and 2006 GT, with 2005 also having headliner problems.
3. The back seat of the GT is for temp use for adults or fine for small children. If you are very tall (6 ft+) the usual person behind you suffers greatly situation. The GTC offers slightly more rear legroom.
Hope this helps.

Auto lift up spoiler, as i recall, was from the very beginning (2005 on upwards) of the GT. Thus there is no need for an aftermarket version.
Thanks. Are these cars generally DIY friendly for some one who restores classic cars and has a wee garage.
I used to do all my own Porsche work. For the Porsche, I have a PST2, Scope, test leads and adequate tools so if I was to buy the appropriate diagnostic equipment would you say the GT is " doable".
Thanks.
F.
Brakes/rotors, oil, filters.... usual stuff is easy DIY. Changing spark plugs is a bit more involved yet doable once you have the service dvd. Of course removing the engine or opening the gearbox for servicing.... depends on your ability. So I'd say about normal to perhaps slightly more challenging.
