Evening Esteemed PH'ers

After quite a few years with an itch for a Spur I bought one this week. I need something a bit bigger than my Merc C63 to cart the 3 kids about in and I've pretty much done all the SUV's now. I'm used to sub 15mpg already, so no shocks there

07 car, black/black/piano, Mulliner, low miles, Bentley warranty, pics next week when it comes.

I've read quite a few threads on here about them, which helped with some research thank you.

Is this the main Bentley forum where owners hang out?

What can anyone tell me / inform me etc about the inbound ownership experience?

Get used to standing by the v-power pump a lot. Stick it in sport and you'll see single figure mpg.
Come summer drop the window to hear the W12 burble as the double glazed windows block a lot out. frown

Are these Super Unleaded only?

One of my Directors runs a GTC and has always put normal unleaded in it

I can't see the W12 burbling anywhere near as much as the 6.2 litre V8 in my C63, these Spur's are quiet.

Are they reliable ? What's going to go wrong ?

The GT filler flap has 98 stamped on the inside.
I imagine the the spur is very similar on the fault front, gullies to be kept free, rear break light although the location is different, keep the battery topped up if not used regularly and enjoy barge power.

Thank you.

Is there an active/lively forum on there? (One doesn't jump out at me)

We have had a couple of Spurs. One of the biggest failures was suspension bags blowing at 50k miles. Lots of other silly electrical faults too. Phone pairing is a problem on 2007 cars.

suspect any decent Audi forum might be useful too, is it not the same engine as the A8 W12?

Well, don't want to seem like sniping as am only a member of this site, the vintage Bentley www.rollsroyceforums.com/forums/ yet have an 07 so don't participate on that one. A site with enthusiasts of more modern Bentley automobiles is at www.6speedonline.com/forums/bentley-42/

Hope this helps. Been a member of each for years and they are both a great group of helpful, knowledgeable people.

The Rrec forum doesn't have many gt owners and is most active with respect to history, technical aspects and general natter, although as mentioned, there is some civil unrest ongoing presently.
The meet-ups can be fun!

Thanks Folks, I have had enough of forums with politics and Internet megalomaniacs all over the shop.

I will go and snoop about some of the suggestions

Like you say, I'm hardly likely to want to bang on about old Rollers and restoration projects with an 07 car.

Ok, so a few weeks in here are my observations/feedback....

TOTAL spec, I'm really glad I hung out for exactly the right spec car, it pretty much has EVERY option on it. Mulliner spec was well worth holding out for too. No point comparing it to the outgoing daily pooper (C63 AMG) as the whole thing is a different prospect, but the interior is sublime (acres of leather, Bentley embossed stuff, chrome and piano black trim). It's MASSIVE inside, the kids can stretch out in the back in the 4 zone air con, all seats with massage chair function.

It is what it is, I don't think you could class the drive as 'enjoyable' really (Ferrari's, Lambo's, Evo's, C63's etc are enjoyable). This is a really nice/smart family smoke-about basically, acres of space and a very nice place to sit.

Mpg is about 13-16mpg, but this has been either hoofing it or around town driving (neither economical).

Seem's to get loads of looks and complimentary comments, but it also gets just as many 'old mans car' or 'has someone died' gags too, this is a marmite car for sure

I did 700 miles in the Spur on a trip over the Easter weekend to our Anglesey gaff.

What a comfortable smoker it is. Get it up to 70mph+ and it flies (gets to 160+ so effortlessly it's untrue - and is totally unstressed and relaxing then too). 120-130 cruising is just perfect.

Drove it like a Saint for the first leg up there (300 miles), left it in Comfort mode and worked on squeezing max mpg during the trip - end result 14.7mpg over the journey.

Drove it back completely the opposite, left in Sport mode and hoofed it...end result 13.9mpg. So my conclusion is that one might as well just hoof it everywhere.

The kids absolutely love it, LOADS of space in the back, they can stretch out and travel in 1st Class comfort. Wife pleased too (although she says it's not 'me').

It's not a car for chucking around the country lanes (no surprise there), but for moving the family about in (or a bunch of adults) I'm struggling to think of something better for the dough (as long as you don't mind paying for petrol that is).

Annoyingly I cannot get the Electric Gate/Garage thing to tune into my keyfob, getting it interfaced with an iPod seems to be a pain in the arse and the bluetooth is crap at tuning in with either of my mobiles!

The critics of these cars are usually the people who havnt experienced one, for a big barge they are truly quick.
