Hope you guys can help.

My 07 GT is due its 6 year service (currently 37k miles). I've given up on Jack Barclay for a variety of reasons and am looking for somewhere who can do a proper job without main dealer prices. I've got no intention of selling it so the main dealer stamp is less important to me now that the car has some age on it.

Anywhere West London to Birmingham (basically the M40) is good. But I don't mind making an overnight trip out of it if the deal is good.

Main dealer quotes about £1200. Servicing stop quote me £560 but won't say who with. The garage they took my Range Rover too messed up the electronics so I wasn't so happy.

Any thoughts?

...So, a main dealer quote you £1200 but a dealer you dont know quote you £560?

A few things spring to mind there, You are trusting your £100,000 plus Bentley to
someone you dont know, who messed up the Range Rover, The Bentley main dealer
want £1200 for the propper service, yet you dont know what £560 gets you at the
other garage? My guess is that £560 gets you a oil & filter change only.

My advise is to have a ring round all the main dealers as they will try and
price match with each other and in some instances, good known Bentley specialists.

Just remember, by the time you have paid for the fuel and your time to travel to dealer
miles away, there may not be that greater saving.

I hope this helps.

High Quality
Great Customer Service
Low Price

Pick any of the above two.

When you read the list of things that are done at the service there is nothing so technical that convinces me the car, which does 2.5k miles a year, needs a main dealer to top up its fluids etc.

Not sure why I need to pay someone £100+ an hour to change my oil.

As for quality and service - well, I could bore you for ever with my negative main dealer experiences.........

Think I would rather support an independent garage that comes with a good recommendation,

A friend with an 04 CGT had the same quandary for the 8yr service. He was initially quoted £2k by the supplying main dealer and about £1350 by a trusted indie.....he had it serviced in the end by another main dealer in the area for less than the price of the indie and they even picked the car up (albeit a driver collection rather than a transporter).

The posts above are very true....a main dealer has all the software upgrades and all the latest recall info - a car with full main dealer history will sell more easily in the future sadly, albeit not for necessarily a higher price. I can also say that a main dealer should offer you a courtesy car and if you negotiate well, will even pick your car up on a transporter and return it the same way.

....I couldnt have put it better myself.
If there were two identical cars parked next to each other, one with perfect Bentley service history and one with 'any garage' service history, which one would you out your hard earned cash?

Interesting discussion so far.

I have no intention of selling this car ever so resale value is not
Important to me. I have 6 other cars so don't need a courtesy car.

I guess what I am after is a bespoke assessment of what my car
actually needs. For example, the schedule shows that I should have
the hydraulic hoses replaced at this service and that is factored into
the dealer price. But does this car actually need this done right now ?

I don't want to pay for unnecessary work but am happy to pay
for what the car needs.

But the fixed price servicing factors things in that might not be necessary.

A good main dealer will listen to their customer before they start work & price the service accordingly to the findings of there initial inspection.ln an ideal world you would ask for a pre-service inspection & walk around the car with a technician as they do it & then instruct them accordingly.

l appreciate your comments BTW & not intending to sell the car presently though circumstances can change & the supply of CGTs is more plentiful/ affordable more so now than ever.

Main dealer price seems high - quite a few (Bentley Hampshire) will match good independent servicing quotes (Balmoral etc) for cars that age.

I own a Continental GT, Aston Martin & Ferrari & all my servicing is done by Shane Ashley-Carter.(www.a-cl.co.uk). Based in Ewelme Oxfordshire.
Top team and very reasonable cost.
