Hello all,

I'm seriously considering a Bently GT 2007/8 model. I'm intrigued to know what to expect on the old MPG front? Can I expect any better that 10MPG, I know on a run it'll be possibly be better than this, but I do tend to do allot of town driving. What average MPG do these cars get???

If it's not to bad then I can justify a little extra on the fuel bill, but as I currently do around 30000 miles a year I know it could be painful.

Very grateful to hear about all those average MPG's.

Regards
Carlos

My 2004 GT has averaged 17 mpg over the life of the car. Now at 56, 000 miles. On short and urban runs you will struggle to get over 10 mpg but with a light touch you can get up to 23 mpg on a motorway. Track days will see you down at 3 mpg.
It is the price you pay for enjoying yourself...... get the car and join the Bentley Drivers Club - some of their events are irreplaceable.

Thanks for that, 17mpg isn't all that bad if that's your overall average. 3mpg is a bit crazy, doing 30000 miles a year at that level would give me a £64000 annual fuel bill, I will defenetly be getting a nectar card @ that rate, looks like shopping in Tescos is going to get a whole lot cheaper for me :~D

Anything else to look out for? Such as year models to avoid, is it worth getting a speed or a gtc? I've heard the batteries go flat, how long do you have to leave it before this becomes a problem?

Thanks
Carlos

I've now had my 2004 Continental GT for a week and in 40-odd miles of town driving, my mpg is averaging 11.2.

I haven't yet had a chance to take it for a proper spin, alas.

The standard GT is sub 5 seconds to sixty with a top speed of 198 mph so do you really need to spend extra on going even faster? The handling on later cars is different, but unless you are driving on the ragged edge, will it make any difference? The average onlooker will not know the difference between a GT and a Speed.
Watch out for tyre pressure sensor failure and water leaks from blocked drain holes. Early models had failures of high level rear stop lights.
Buy only with a complete service history from a Bentley main dealer.

l helped a friend buy an 04 GT 18 months ago - 2 owners, supplying BFSH & 36k miles. Yes, the battery will go flat (& it has 2 by the way) if it isn't driven enough & if the 3rd brake light goes it is over £750 at Bentley, but those are the only 2 things he has suffered from other than the fact the computer said it was having complete brake failure (which it wasn't). Many issues are traced back to a poorly charging battery....due to lack of use or not being put on a battery conditioner.

My friend is sufficiently impressed by his car, he is thinking of getting a newer one when the opportunity arises. Mpg wise his car does normally 15-17 mpg although he has seen more, especially if you turn the AC off!

By the way main dealers will be competitive on servicing costs if you are prepared to ask wink

On a decent few hours on the motorway you'll get 21-22, around town low teens, heavy traffic ten.
Having a blast in sport, seven..... Or lower. biggrin
They made updates all through the life of the car, early ones seem to have a few more issues.
There are a few independents that are probably better than main dealers.

Hi RevHappy, I also live in Surrey and just bought a GT Speed. Any independents you'd recommend for a 5 year old car?

I have averaged 17.7 mpg over 18,000 miles in my GT Speed. A mix of daily commuting into NYC and some longish trips. I get about 13 mpg in my Arnage under the same conditions and used to get about 18mpg in a Rangey Supercharged....

Of course I only pay 57p a litre, which helps.

I just bought a GT Speed a few months ago and it's fantastic. I just wanted something easy and comfortable to get in and drive to the office. It's obscenely fast and outrageously comfortable. The best way to describe it is that it feels like Range Rover have tried to make a sports car, but that’s intended as a compliment! Fuel wise, I'll be honest I never pay any attention on any of my cars because I'd be suicidal if I did biggrin . I reckon I'm in averaging the early teens on my commute to work which is a little bit of town driving and some country roads. It's fantastic though! Well worth it. If you're really worried about fuel bills then maybe buying a cheap BMW or Audi diesel as well to split the driving with? Just an idea. Anyone go on and buy one it's brilliant. Just remember to get one with massaging seats, they're amazing cloud9

Not bad, but can beat that, managed to drive from Southampton to cheshire last week and averaged 25.3 ! On motorway and then onto the broads overall I obtained 24.9 and this was my first drive of the car! And I was going between 60 and 80 mph

Best I've ever managed is 21.3 on a run sitting between 70&80. General to and from work is 14-15. Saying that it only managed 4 when I went to the shops and back the other day!!!
