Vermillion Red '89 Turbo R to join the stable
Discussion
Gents,
Well, after much deliberation, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this; http://ocpabi.com/index.asp?ViewType=LARGE&Car...
'twas a less-than-favorable experience with the dealer, as I'm fairly certain that they are just used to flogging late model luxoboxes like Audis and BMs, so they weren't terribly knowledgeable about my bright red dowager, however a full main dealer service history helped ram home the fact that I needed to buy it and get it out of the cowboy hands and into a cozy, warm garage to keep my '53 R-Type company
Should be here a week from today. Pics to come!
Cheers,
Aaron

Congratulations the car looks stunning! Certainly less than the miles she wears. Good luck on the delivery!
Thanks Royale, hope it doesn't turn out to be a shed. I didn't have a PPI done on it, probably foolishly, but I can do most all of my own work on it, and considering this will be my fourth Turbo R, I figure I can find my way around them fairly competently
I was a little surprised when they accepted my initial offer, but they've had it on their forecourt for probably a year, and during that time had to replace both rear hydraulic struts, so the proof of its condition will be in the visible putting when it arrives and I get to see it in person, and of course proper pics of it will duly be posted once it makes its way across the country from California to Ohio.

Yeah, I usually just roll the dice myself and hope for the best
Granted, a PPI is never a bad idea, particularly if you live somewhere like the US where it isn't always convenient to go see a car in person as it may be 2,000 miles away on the other end of the country, however with this red car I just bought, since it's from a dealer, I'll have some recourse if the car arrives and is a complete shed, although according to the shipping company's truck driver, the car is in really nice condition, so that's a bit of a relief I suppose...

Ok fellas, here are a few pics. Sorry they're not taken in a more appropriate setting, but it's the middle of winter here and considering this car has spent its entire life in southern California, I'm not about to let it see a speck of salt now! So here it is, huddling inside my workshop with some other members of my flotilla...
Oh, the red D90 in the background is the one that 2Woody helped me yank the engine out of in preparation for a built 5.4 litre Landie V8 (which has just arrived this week from the builder's!) and will yield approx. 300 horsepower. Ought to be a blast in a Defender!
Thanks for the nice words gents. Funny you should ask how it stacks up to the XJR in comparison. I actually sold my last Turbo R because I felt the XJR was twice the performance and comfort at half the cost! However, great a car as the Jag is, it's not a hand built, carved out of granite Bentley, hence my desire for another
Besides, my R-Type seemed lonely
