I've got a nagging itch for some old school luxury in my garage and so I'm thinking Arnages look like conspicuously good value.

So I've been nosing about with a notianal budget of £35k and there are a good few nice cars abotu at that sort of money or less even.

However, despite have had a good poke about I cant really find much detail about the differance between the Arnage R and Arnage T apart form the fact the T has slightly more power.

Give the point of it for me is wafting luxury, I've got speed covered elsewhere, is there much actual differance in the drive of them??

Advice, guidance and links to any gems of cars welcomed from the PH collective.

In terms of performance there is not a lot of difference, (50hp) however having owned both, the R is the supreme car as it ticks more boxes. The T is more sporty, more aggressive and has more urgency, however the R is all about the comfort and having owned 3 or them its is nicer in the way it delivers its performance, I always felt the R was more drivable then the T. Don't let higher mileage cars put you off as they need to be driven, a low mileage cars will have lots of problems as these cars hate being stuck in the garage and only coming out once a month, look for a low owner car with comprehensive history. Dont forget they all drive different, so make sure you drive plenty before committing to a purchase

Thanks for the reply, that a very interesting insight!

It seems everybody wants the T so the R tends to be cheaper than the T.

Anything in particular to look out for spec or issues wise??

And if you do spot a "good" looking one, linky!!!

Thanks again.

Does the R also have the updated head gasket?

Early Arnage T are known to chew up their tappets, and the cost of repair can be ruinous. It seems that the best way to avoid this is to buy a facelift model from 2005 onwards, where the engine was revised in anticipation of the forthcoming Brooklands. Or you might find one where the tappets have been replaced (get invoice proof).

As with all things Bentley, buying without a full main dealer service history and a bucket load of receipts is risking your bank balance. This may be especially true if you anticipate buying one that is not in the first flush of youth.

Good Luck
David.

I'm afraid the petticoat government has vetoed an Arnage, apparently "too old mannish!"

So the budget has been amended and I'm on the cusp of a deal on a Continental GTC.

Luxury and roofless with room for kids, epic!

I'm happy

The T has different interior/exterior options as well as different Mulliner packs. Main dealer warranty covers the engine so for £2k a year it's probably worth having as peace of mind against the tappet issue?

Looking at a black T with black diamond quilted seats and 19" split rims I fail to see why such a car would be "old mannish". A green label with 17" wheels and green/ivory colour combo and all the chromed exterior bits might be a different story...

Cars are one area I don't let the other half have a say in. Grow a pair!

Thanks for the advice, It is her car though!

Plus I'm more than happy, a Conti GTC is my perfect option as a companion to my other cars.

Luxury, convertible and I can take the kids, I have too many 2 seaters!

So for me, a GTC is way better than the Arnage, I've had a result I'd say!

She prefers the more modern look of the GTC plus means we have a 4 seater convertible and can take kids.

I was looking at Arnage as a cheaper option, so I call it a result!

Fair enough but it sounded like it was yours.

Personally I don't think the CGT cab or otherwise is a proper Bentley - certainly it's not old school luxury.

If I went Arnage it might have been an additional car, but now it's going to replace her M3.

I wanted a GTC as I think it's the perfect companion for my Ferrari.

Anyway, I'm happy, car comes Wednesday so assuming its as good as it looks, job done! smile

Blimey Bertie you didn't waste time! Found one already? What spec did you go for?

I'm in a very similar dilemma at the moment in that I'm trying to decide between an Arnage T or a Ferrari 612. Different cars I know but love them both!

Try them, very different!

I looked at a 612, but compared to the 599 or 458 it just felt a bit old so went for something different with the GTC.

The appleal for me was the luxury and 4 seea convertible so the kids can enjoy it and so we'll use it more.

As an only car, I'd say 612, but I don't know if that's your situation or if you have other things.

I agree with you, Rushmore, a Black T is cool. Go for it.

That's pretty much what I'm after though the mileage is just too low.

Cars like to be used. Short journeys or very little use doesn't do them any good at all - moisture build-up - internal corrosion, brittle hoses etc. Would prefer to have a 50k mile car for £30k that has ironed out most of the faults it may develop.
