need to scratch the bentley itch for a year or so... nothing long-term...
on a scale of 1-10, how mad does this sound, and how does this one come across on first glance?

Hard to say from the photos, but the windscreen surround is clearly knackered and it's beyond a bit misted up inside isn't it?
I note you're in Hampshire, so go and have a chat with Phantom Motors at Crondall.
And there's this if you want a really good budget Turbo R

Open to offers, it'll probably end up going for under ten.

Then get yourself a good one. If you only want it for one year, make sure that year is filled with pleasure and not with fixing an old dump. Buy the best car you can afford, so it is easy to sell again. Why do people think that a bottom-of-the-barrel car is going to give any proper pleasure???

It's sad to see you selling after all your posts here, she looks like a magnificent example and I hope your posting history on here will help you get the best possible price. I note you're in Hampshire, so go and have a chat with Phantom Motors at Crondall.

I've often read that if you purchase a circa five grand Bentley you will end up spending that again on getting it to a decent standard.
I'd go for one at around 10K if I was looking for one.
In my experience it's easy to spend GBP 2-3,000 sorting out minor niggles no matter what price level you purchase at...albeit a good example (not necessarily the most expensive) should have less immediate issues to sort.I'd go for one at around 10K if I was looking for one.

It is very easy to spend 5k on such cars just to make them right. I am not sure whether a 5k BEntley run on a shoestring is a good idea...I'd go for one at around 10K if I was looking for one.
