Does anyone know more about this "edition"? Notice the different centre instruments arrangement. Never seen one of these before.

They were never officially called a "Birkin" when they were on sale, that was a name used by the factory for the project.
They were a parts bin special to clear the redundant BMW engine stock, all pre-registered by Crewe and had a retail price of £119950. I think there were circa twenty for the UK market produced in a limited colour range.
I sold two and each buyer choose this car above the Red Label as they felt it was a better driving car and prefered the BMW engine with the 5 speed gearbox, so there's certainly something right about them.

I use mine as an everyday driver, petrol consumption is fantastic and the power is there when needed :-)
Had mine 7 years, can't sell it, it's just too good
The website above shows my exact car. The build sheet has "birkin" on but not the logbook or gold leaf lettering on centre console

My thoughts on the missing 2 dials were done so that the bentley logo could be displayed because the normal place for this was taken up by the limited edition logo, In terms of a parts bin car yes but a blinking good one at that, first of all this shared the same stiffened she'll as the red label also with stiffened up front suspension and also larger redline brakes and yet 280 kg lighter so in fact this was probably one of the best handling arnages and certainly the quickest stopping Arnage of all! I also read that they were given a bit more lower down torque than standard green label but how true this is I don't know? So far I've come across 5 , one in peacock blue , one in black and 3 silver ones, none of which have the sat nav, sunroof or picnic tables, at present I'm looking for a blue one or a bright colour,if anyone see's one for sale please let me know, Alex.

Well I bought one in silver tempest, awesome car, will post photos shortly after I've polished it!, comes with updated stiffer shell , newer redline seat configuration, larger brakes, power fold mirrors, sundyme glass, speed variable power steering, updated factory radio which simple and lovely and a joy to operate, updated rear electric window configuration, also its called a green label on the log book and yet the front of the instruction manual and printed through it, it is called the Berkin editiion so I think buy and seller is slightly wrong on his info but anyway what a car, certainly the best of the 4.4s to own.
I had the opportunity to buy a redline a day or two before and am glad I didn't, don't get me wrong it a nice big engine and is pure bentley, but listening to both cars on start up and running the bmw engine is in a different league so much smoother and quieter (had plenty of xjs v12's and other big engine cars) in fact I would say the smoothest engine I've ever seen!! And yet after reading reports saying that insipid and offers no umps or low down torque- what a load of tosh !! It does and it does make a gorgeous v8 thunder growl very similar to the gtv8!(but not as load due to no exhaust valves) .
If are think of getting a red label you might want to think more serious about a birkin, better handling better stopping, lighter , certainly better fuel economy, better gear box, and cheaper to run and due to its rarity(15 on the road in uk) is likely to keep its value better, if not increase, in fact it's a no brainer go buy one tommorow!

If you can show me where the factory ever officially called the car a "Berkin Edition" then I will bow to your superior knowledge on the subject. Gassing Station | Bentley & Rolls Royce | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
