Arnage vs. Brooklands/Turbo R...."boring"?
Discussion
Am looking for a weekend toy. Went to see Hanwells, the RR/B dealer.
Now - the Arnage is much more coherent when it comes to the exterior. They sorted out the rear doors/windows which look a bit weird on the SZ range, the tail lights are much nicer and so on.
Still - I fail to fall in love with it. The angular SZ has a provocative, ultra-straight, "official" design and strikes a chord in me. Arnage's interior seems like a semi-ironic twist on the "real" RR/B interior.
What shall I do?

i was in exactly the same position as the OP
I went to Hanwells. Bought a Silver Shadow 2. Was a heap of ****. after 6 months of hassles, I traded it in against a mint RT which they hadnt touched, serviced or had anything to do with, other than buying from VW Finance (bentley) a month before. Never been back.
Go to Phantom Motors near Guildford.
Thats all you need to know....

Well - they are a little bit Terry-Tibbs-y but at least offer a very good selection of modern classics RR/B in London.
Anyway - I know that I want a peacock blue post-1996 Brookland or Turbo with magnolia leather and 17" wheels.
Hmmm. I'm not sure I would be quite so flattering. But your mileage may varhy.Anyway - I know that I want a peacock blue post-1996 Brookland or Turbo with magnolia leather and 17" wheels.
if you want the 17" wheels, then you want the Mulliner handling pack of much stiffer anti-roll bars. Phantom Motors have them (all the remaining stock, I think?) Do you see a pattern emerging on the recommendation...? :-)

It needs to be post 1996 - from 1997 onwards, German road tax is EUR 500 instead of 1000.
Still - an I mainly want a car for weekends/those special days when you need to have a Bentley to waft around in....which model suits me best? I am concerned that the A. might feel/behave a bit to ordinary/perfect. The SZ series look very "formal" and provocative (as in "not beautiful"). The final facelift interior looks REALLY nice; the A. interior (at least in the early cars) is a bit too modern/plain for my taste. Still, it has the prettiest body shape.

Well, I can't comment on the quality of Hanwells nor their inventory since I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio however that color combination does sound lovely and if your preferential Peacock over Magnolia isn't readily available, I'd definitely give the green car a peek at least. Then again, every other Turbo R I see for sale in England seems to be Peacock over Mag, so perhaps hold out a bit longer...
