Anyone got a handle on what a major service at a franchise dealer should be? I'm in a mild state of bemusement...

Thx
Ps this is the oil plus brake fluid

Depends which major service your on, they do change a bit as the car gets older. I think the 5 or 6 year one is a good 8hrs and a good few things are changed. Depending on your location and the age of the car there are some great indies who's labour charges are half that of a main dealer.

Find dealers from different group companies and haggle away. You can get big discounts with a bit of phoning around or use something like Supercarhub to get multi quotes.

Not sure where you are located 2.5pi? But here is a recommendation:

Hillier Hill in Olney are fantastic and extremely good value (compared to main dealers).

You seem concerned about not using a main agent and finding the best value, official dealer. However, they all seem to participate in a "compact alliance" and charge similar or even identical service / labour costs and parts mark-ups nationwide.

No doubt you've been told by a main agent sales person that your car will lose considerable value if it is not serviced by a main agent and furthermore; that no official dealer will be interested in taking your car in part exchange if it has not been maintained by an official, approved main agent. .... I will leave it to you to decide if this is protectionism or not? .... laced with a healthy sprinkle of B.S.

Certainly, I would not trust my Bentley (or any other car), to an "under the arches" type outfit. But Hillier Hill are truly amazing. I have three friends who use them: One with a pre war RR, another with two, sixties Clouds and another with a GT similar to mine. We all rave over the way that deal with us and their incredibly high standards and skills. Go take a look at them and I'm sure you'll be smitten.

Good luck!
