First Bentley

I pick up my first Bentley in less than a couple of weeks now, best type of Christmas present in my book. So as much as I’d liked a big old beast SWIMBO did not, so I thought I’d start with a 06 Conti GT and work my way across from there.

So I just wondered if there were any handy tips and looks out on such a car.

If you can stretch to an 07MY car it comes with a host of subtle updates. These include a revised seating position that is 20mm lower so you feel far more 'in' the car rather than 'on' it when driving.

Thanks for the reply, this section seems a little less frequented.

I was planning on a 05 car but a great 06 car came up for similar money but a few extra miles. I knew tat the 07 had more refinements but it's not worth the extra over the initial 05 budget I'd set.

I'm looking for more general functional advise on day to day.

Turbo R look a lot of fun but maybe an Arnage or Azure, or better still a brooklands but I'd need a bigger drive.

your going to love that gt, if you like speed and epic driving your lourneys will seem to be over very quick

unfortunaly once you have driven a gt, any other REAL old timer Bentley just wont cut it, the problem you have from here is you can only go down unless in the future you get a newer one all gts are epic matey enjoy,

Keeping the 430 so no stranger to speed, the GT will be the practical car. I've sold the concept to swmbo, as just a slight bigger more comfortable TT for her to use as well
Thought about something more crazy than the 430 and a shed but this way every car journey will bring a smile to my face.

Hi Gary71...how can I tell a 06 from an 07? Lights, indicators, bumper? I am not used to MY designations for cars, although it is the de-facto standard in the USA/ Canada

Hi, It's difficult to tell to be honest! Externally they are much the same.

The knee roll and glovebox are a different design (more robust), but the VIN is the most reliable method. I'm sure your Bentley dealer would be able to help.

The lower seating position is pretty obvious if you have two cars next to each other, but again not at a glance.

Easy way to tell is the DVD sat nav and thin chrome trim on headlights.
They made up dates pretty much every year, some internal, few external until the latest cars.
Speak to a good indie to see which ones are worth while for the extra money and the bigger fall later on.
