Is there any way of making the GTC sound a little louder without doing stupid things to it?

IIRC there is a vacuum operated solenoid in the exhaust that opens at WOT, the standard "trick" with other VW cars fitted with these, is to disable the vacuum feed, allowing the solenoid to be in the open position at all times.

Otherwise you’re looking at replacing sections of the exhaust system with aftermarket bits form the likes of Miltek/Tubi/Quicksilver etc.

I'd suggest taking it to an AUDI specialist as it will be the same procdure as used on RS4's (pull off rubber pipe, glue end shut, tweak ECU)

The cost of exhaust bits depends on what bit you get and from whom . . but this will give you a starting point for your own research http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/BENTLEY_priceca...

Hi Hdiam1950,

Great topic as I also will be looking into this myself very soon and have made a few light enquiries re exhaust systems, so far both capristo and tubi has advised that it would be around the £1500-2000 Mark for a new exhaust which to be honest I'm not keen on!.

I did a similar thing with my old Ferrari 360 spider and had my local indie dealer "Open up the valves permanently", the cost for this was around £100 and was a huge difference in the sound (pops, bangs etc).

Now I know you don't particurely want the same result as the Ferrari (totally different car) however a little more noise from such a deep sounding 6.0 litre engine especially with the roof down would be heaven!.

Not to use you as a guinea pig or anything ;-) however if you did happen to get this "vacuum" thing done would you be so kind as to let me know where you got it done and the improvements/problems you encountered.

Thank you
John

This is what you need for the standard exhaust, capristo also sell them for slightly cheaper. Its a wireless valve controller, which overides the exhaust solenoid controlling the valves.

Works great, best of both worlds.

If you want it loud all the time just pull the vacuum hoses off and put a screw in the end to stop any rubbish getting in them and tag them away from the exhaust as it gets hot. Very easy to do and costs nothing.

Hi top Jay

I would like the "loud noise" all the time!. Now not being mechanically minded is there somewhere I can take it that would know how to do the hoses thing (preferably not bentley main dealer) I live in Kent and wondered if you knew of any indie specialist!.

Also do you know if it kicks up any warning or engine lights or if there are any downsides of doing this?

Thank you
John
