My Passion for my Bentley Turbo R is draining my pocket, but I can't stop taking her out. I need to drive her every day. Each time I take her out I go straight to the garage to fuel her up. As much as I try to fight my urge I fail constantly. The need to drive her is in my very soul. Why is that?

Times being hard, I know I can't continue to satisfy my passion, therefore I fear My beautiful Turbo R must go to a new home. I know that if I keep her my Passion / need to drive her will not diminish and I will succumb to her lure and she will make my life financially difficult, and that must not happen.

What the heck is it with these cars that have such a profound effect on us? What is it about them?

If I keep my car my passion to drive her will bring with it financial hardship, therefore the only way to prevent that is to sell her. But goodness me it's a difficult thing to do. She has a hold on me. For she makes my day, gives me something to get up for and look forward to. Every second I'm in her company is magical beyond words.

She's in Midnight Blue with magnolia hide piped blue with 85k on the clock, a truly great colour combination. I stand and look at her in awe each time I take her out and put her back into the garage.

Why oh why do these cars affect us in this way? What should I do for the best?

No, not an add, and I'm sorry if my words led you to take it that way. I described my Bentley in the small way that I did to give you an insight to how she looks. She is so much more beautiful (colour wise) than my RRSS1 which was Walnut over Silver Sand, and my RRSS2 which was Onyx.

I was at a rally at the weekend which included all manner of vehicles, and I tried to get an answer from various owners as to what the attraction is for them with their vehicles. One guy had restored 7 MGs, he can't leave them alone, but why only MGs? another Austin A5s, and another Morris Minors.

We are all attracted to different vehicles, there must be a reason why, something in our makeup perhaps. Many owners cherish their cars more than their family members. Devoting many hours each week to keeping them on the road.

Is it a male/female thing. With the cars being female and beautiful? I'd just like to understand what it is that makes us feel so overwhelmingly passionate about not just having our vehicles, but needing to drive them all the time. Taking us to the point of financial ruin if we continue.

What amuses me is the way people think that they're worth a fortune and that you're loaded if you run one. Er, actually, it's the opposite, they're worth nowt and I'm skint because I run one hehe

But I could never, ever, part with mine. It's part of the family.

Just the other day, a bunch of PH'ers were saying that they consider BG as a personal freind or aquaintance of theirs, quite seperately to me. That speaks volumes, there aren't many cars special enough to get under the skin of others, and be regarded with love & affection by them, not just by its owner. The daft buggers actually talk to it, like I do biggrin

Great to hear from you BG.

I want to keep 'Hatty' for evermore myself. But my passion for her is my worst enemy. Thank God I don't smoke or drink. She is my escape from whatever problems life throws at me. Just knowing she is there in the garage is sometimes enough to get me through the day. I know it sounds daft, but hey, thats me.

I Love the fact the radio cassette trim matches the door cappings and facia, as does the remote control, likewise the visor mirror sliders. The way she lights up inside at night when I open the door WOW!!! Such wonderful design features. A really beautiful Lady. Smitten is what I am.

There was a guy at last Sundays Rally who had with him his Austin A35 Van which he bought new back in 1964. Not many one owner A35s around. But she is his passion too. He won't have you say a word against her, it's as though she's human.

I'm so glad that I have within me whatever it is that enables me to experience the feelings I do in relation to 'Hatty'. Sadly such joy does come at a price. I have even looked at the possibility of cashing in a pension plan in order to keep her, such is the lure of her beauty.

Am I mad????

Hatty you say?

She's a big girl, but I can see the appeal.

Slightly going off topic, but along the same lines. I just took my lad and three of his mates to their school prom at a country house hotel. We get to the gates and I stop in the driveway and we swap places. He drove BG up the drive to the main entrance, his mates couldn't believe I let him take the wheel yikes There was a huge crowd of kids watching the arrivals, they were amazed when they saw him driving. Turns out we went to the wrong entrance door, so he did a three point turn, and we went back around to the marquee entrance and up to the red carpet. Again lots of kudos and brownie points for James when all the other kids saw him step out from behind the wheel biggrin

That's my boy (both of them) cloud9

Like I said, part of the family.

Very touching BG . . . . Many years from now, when you can’t remember your own name and are sitting in puddle of your own filth, be happy that your sons memory of you will be of THAT time you let him drive your Bentley to the school dance (or something similar) and what a decent father you are smile
