Hey all,

My sister has a c.7 year old Megane Conv. which she has a few problems with. She arrived at my house yesterday compaining that the radio didn't work. Bizarrely, while I was in the car trying to find the problem, she opened the boot and the radio came on!! This was the start of a long string of issues that I found, like the boot brake light coming on all of the time. Eventually I traced the problem to the wiring that is attached to the left hand boot hinge - some numpty had not attached it properly and it has been sliced almost in two by the boot hinge. There must be about 10 small wires in there, all orange coloured and only about three of them are still intact, the rest have been cut completely.

Anyway, good to at least find that and my advice to her was to take it to an auto electrician to get it properly fixed rather than bodge it myself. However, I then made the mistake of closing the boot, at which point we realised that the boot lock was electrically operated and the switch was now dead! Obviously the wire that operated the boot lock must have been one of the broken ones but must have at least have been in contact before I separated the broken wires manually....

So, bit of a panic due to my sister's stuff being in the boot...had a look and noticed that there was a key entry next to the number plate lights - hurrah (I thought.....). I cannot get the key to go into this boot lock no matter what I do - I've looked at the lock on the left hand door of the car to compare and the boot lock seems to have a piece of metal preventing the key from going in properly (I don't mean the little metal flap that keeps dirt out of the lock).

Anyone got any ideas?
