Renault Scenic Window Regulator Replacement
Discussion
What a nightmare!
My driver side front window stopped working last week - I'd already read up on this and knew it would be the ridiculously flimsy regulator bracket. Got myself a new one (well a front pair) from Renault for £4.70 and set about stripping the door down.
Firstly these door cards are a tt to remove properly. After removing all the visible screw you have to remove the upper door card which is clipped in such a way that it needs to be pulled straight off and upwards at the same time. The lower part has to be lifted, then pulled off towards you - why they can't just screw these things in place is beyond me.
The regulator is a relatively simple affair - it's held in by three screws (one of which has already been removed when you take the card off) and it then simply lifts out. At this point the green bracket had detached completely and the two cables had mangled round the motor. Having stripped off the motor and untangled the cables, it's time to slide on the new bracket and re-attach. Unforunately as the cables were so mangled they had to be re-fitted upside down. This was an utter git to do as they were mangled so were very tight and difficult to fit round everything.
Having put it all back together, refitted the regulator and reattached the window I found that the damaged wires were causing the regulator bracket to sit about 1" lower than it was supposed to meaning that the window had a gap when fully closed. Renault wanted £250 for a new regulator as the cables were not available separately so I devised a cunning plan.
The regulators are sold in pairs, one for each side of the car. So I fitted the passenger side one upside down, then sat the driver one on top of it, tied the two together with string and attached the window to the driver side one. This meant that when refitted the window now went all the way up (but unfortunately stops 1" short of going all the way down). Refit the door card and hey presto - a sort of repaired window!
Renault wanted £350 to fix it themselves so I have saved myself £345.30 and the only downside is the window stops 1" from the bottom which is fine by me!!
Has anyone else come across this and how did they get round it?

Mmmm, just had problems with our Citroen 'lingo window mech - ended up buying a new regulator set from the "window regulator man" who sold me a replacement (new) for £75.
Pattern part, but works well enough.
And as you say, bit better than having the window held up with blooming tape, which slowly releases itself as the days become warmer!!!
