Hi Guys.

Bought a cheap van last night at auction after the Connect I fancied went for to much money. The van is a 53 plate Berlingo 2.0HDI in superb cosmetic condition. Taxed till July & MOT'd till Feb.

On the way home I realised a few niggles with the van, these include:

  • Gear box is very....uummmm uninformative?? i.e. its hard to tell whether the vehicle is in 1st, 2nd, Neutral etc, Its like stirring a bucket of tar trying to change gear. I may add that there is nothing at all wrong with the box when the gear is eventually found.
  • The van seems down on rather a lot of power, say 20/30% (against a 02 2.0 HDI I also have), again there doesn’t seem any major problems with the engine (noises, misses etc) bar the lack of "poke", my first thought was diesel filter...
  • The Passenger door lock is seized, well not seized, it turns infinitely in the barrel without doing anything.
  • Throttle Pedal seems pretty stiff, clutch & brake seem fine.
What would you reccomend to rectify the above problems, first on my "to do" list is new fuel & air filters. What should I do next to try and rectify the above problems? The Gear selection is of particular concern.

Thanks in Advance.
T

They were like that new. They're cheap for a reason, they're almost as rubbish as the Renault Kangoo.

Still a humourous response that, even though he's already said he has another one which is ok.

Gotta love PH.

There not like that new (as you know)

Barrel lock = they do that sometimes, only solution is a new barrel. Citroen will match one up to the key for you tho.

Is the 2.o Diesel an HDi ? I didnt think they did HDi in 02 or 03 ? i may be wrong.
I thouht it would be a 2.0D 90 hp or 110hp. As they did different outputs, check what youve bought.

Gearbox - You dont say what mileage is on it ? may be time for a scrap or recon box

Just going by the ones I've driven as company vans.

Car/Van of the year means bugger all, there's been some serious stheaps awarded pointless awards by clueless journalists.

Very true.

It would be an HDi, by the way, but may have a different output. I checked

The horrible gearbox and stiff throttle pedal are just Berlingo "attributes" in my experience. You'll need a new barrel for the locks, I've seen a few do exactly the same as you describe. If you send me a PM with the chassis/reg I could price one up for you if it means anything to you?
