Isn't it frustrating how problems and lifes trials tend to converge, just when you could really do without any additional hassle?

Shortly after christmas, I bought myself a Renault Scenic DCi to take car of all of my daily commuting and "crap lugging" duties. The intention was to releive the M3 from daily road grime, car park damage, muddy shoes and far too frequent visits to the pumps.

All's gone really well so far. It's a very nice drive, and an excellent Dr Jekyll relaxed daily hack to the Mr Hyde hooligan tendancies of the M3 .... My mountain bikes are easily swallowed too.

Over the last week, however, the starter motor has become noisier and tempermental, to the point now that it is as good as destroyed, and cannot turn the car (jumping makes no difference).

I've got a starter motor in the post that I intend to fit at the weekend, however Renaults reputation for home servicability has not escaped my radar. Has anyone changed one of these in the past? Can anyone give me an idea of how hard it is likely to be, and what problems I can expect to encounter?

This is going to be a driveway job, so I'm praying for a bit of dry weather on Friday and Saturday!

Autodata says 2.3hrs 1.5dci and 3.3hrs 1.9dci if that helps.Bit awkward on the floor as it's around the back of the engine.

I've been put off by a mate who used to work with Renaults, and have it booked in to get it done by a yockle specialist ..... I'm going to spend my weekend doing a bit of ground work for a mate, and then sitting in the pub smile
