Guys, lots of rumour kicking around about Renault doing a lightweight track version of the 200 before the new model comes out (2012?), such as a slight power increase and weight reduction like in the R26.R. Are these just rumours or do you think they might release one?

Would be pretty pointless imo, just buy a Clio Cup, strip the rear bench out and you would be 95% of the way there. The racing versions only run 205bhp so theres not much more power to be had.

IIRC they shaved well over 100kg from the R26.R. Rear seats comprised just a small fraction of that. The rest was from perspex windows etc. If they could get similar reductions in the 200 AND increase the power (the R3 rally engine runs 230 BHP) I think the performance gains would be very noticable.

Whilst a great car wasn't the R26.R a bit of a commercial flop for Renault, not sure why they'd try it again so soon.

As said, they never managed to shift all of the Megane R26R's so i cant see it personally, it was at one point possible to buy a Cup Racer from Renault in 197 guise as far as im aware.
