Hi all, thanks for reading, I'm looking for advice on 2 fronts.

Short stories: should I get my timing belt done on my 5 year old, 38k miles 182?

Could you reccommend a Renault specialist in Central Scotland (not too keen on a trip to Glasgow, so basically Lothians, Stirlingshire or Fife)?

Longer story/background for anyone with a bit of time smile

I bought the car on 35k in October, knowing it would be needing the 36k service soon but with all the snow and Christmas cashflow I took longer to get it booked in.

It's in a certain main Renault franchise in the area known as 'Edinburgh West' who quoted me £400 for a 36k service which would include 'all the belts changed.' I thought this a very fair price (they had said 299 for just a timing belt and I was quoted about the same by my local indy when I got it MOTed but I'd rather use somewhere with specific Renault experience. When I dropped the car off this morning they advised me to get the timing belt change too to be 'cost effectice' which confused me, as I had asked for all the belts to be changed, so I said to let me know how much extra that would be. It turns out that will be 800 pounds extra, so I politely declined their offer.

So it's getting the Renault 36k service at present (aux belt change included.) I will almost definetely get the timing belt changed somewhere (it's 5 years old so I suppose it will have degraded, even tho I have read today of most people leaving them until 60k miles those are older threads on forums so younger cars) unless one of you guys comes up with some information that it'll be fine :-P

Which leads me on to my question of where to get it done? I am young and so this'll be my first and last experience of being stung by a main dealer with poor communication!

Thanks for reading and I appreciate the time taken for anyone to respond.
