right, over the next few weeks I am going to brave the cold and start sorting out all the things that are wrong with my 306, however there are a few things I would appreciate some help with from anyone who has some time and experience. Firstly are the dreaded electric windows, they both dont work as dosnt the drivers side lock. I have soldered the wires that had split and broke, and I have checked that the motor is working, so I suspect its the connection block thing in the door? is there a way to just bypass this and make my own or some other solution?
Next is the gearbox, crunches when going into 3rd gear so first guess is synchro and this I presume would mean a new gearbox? Dont wana spend a lot but im sure iv read somewhere that 306s have loads of different types of gearboxs and wont all fit? any help would be fantastic guys

Fixing the window motors will be simple, you need a multimeter. All you need to do is trace the voltage through the car, until it stops, at which point you've found the problem.

Bet it will be broken wires in the loom from the A post to the door,I`ve done loads. Its easy to remove the door, pull the loom apart and spend time making a permanent repair.I use a new plug and wire kit that Peugeot supply (expensive)and it takes a lot of time and patience to sort out which wire goes where.I have done so many and have concluded that this is best rather than keep on making "temp" repairs.

As for the gearbox, yes there are lots of types depending on year, engine, model etc.If you have a normal 1.4 or 1.6 petrol TU engine it will have a MA box and very easy to remove. Two choices 2nd hand box or repair your box, like your wire job, the best is always the expensive. My local gearbox specialist would charge £350 to overhaul the box,or find a Peugeot specialist breaker who would supply the correct 2nd hand box for your model, but remember it could be as good as the one your taking out!!.Beware of these so called "reconditioned" boxes seen advertised. If you go for a rebuild make sure the workshop is local and recommended etc etc.

Thanks for the response. I probably wont be keeping the car longer than 2 years, and it only cost me £575 in the first place, so any second hand box that dosnt crunch would be fine in my books, and I just want my windows to go up and down, cheap as can be done, money is tight at the moment.

This. 99% of window/mirror/speaker/central locking problems on 306's are because of these cables. Door needs to come off to do it properly.
