Hi guys

Sorry for the daft question, but here goes: if I have the gearbox of my Saxo replaced, is the differential also replaced? i.e. is the diff integral to the gearbox module of the transmission in a Saxo (FWD car), or is the diff bolted on outside the gearbox?

Just trying to isolate a noise in the car, and I had the gearbox replaced recently...hasn't cured the problem, so am worried the diff is knackered (if it hasn't been replaced as part of the gearbox replacement).

THANKS PH

Thank you. I suspected as much, being a FWD car, but just wanted confirmation. Not all cars are the same...

On the MA gearbox (which you have) it is integral, but on BE units (used in older bigger Cits/Pugs) it can be removed, sometimes wven with the gearbox in situ, so it's not always a silly thing to ask!

Whats the noise?

Heya

It's been solved, it was a bearing problem on the gearbox that had had its bearings replaced by a certain garage in Reading that reputes itself on its prowess with clutches in particular. They refuted the liability.

It's been sorted now by a friend-of-a-friend who reconditions truck gearboxes. Won't be using those clutch specialists again....

Thing is, as you say, it's not always a given (even for FWD cars) that the diff is integral to the gearbox...

Thanks for the info everyone, this is such a great community!
