I take it that its got drum brakes?? If so its very common for a lining to come off a brake shoe (they are bonded on)move with the drum and lock the brakes. The main problem is when its all locked up and wont free! then you can not get the drum off to do the job!!!If its free get the drum off quick and have a look. The other cause could be a wheel cylinder leaking fluid on to the shoes.

I`m glad you got the drum off, your lucky.I`ve had them locked solid and then spend ages trying to get it all apart and then everything is wrecked.Bring back rivets??
