I'm seriously considering buying a 2006 Peugeot 407 SW 2.0 HDi 136 Executive Manual.

This one , http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I've read quite a few reviews on line , from motoring journalists and private owners.

There seems to be a definite undercurrent of seriously peeved owners reporting quite serious failures both mechanically and with the dealers attitude, but the general consensus is that they are quite well put together , quiet and an all round enjoyable drive.

I tend to think that it is usually the disgruntled that are more likely to take to the internet and slate a product they're not happy with so the proportion of unhappy owners is artificially inflated

Anyone on here care to add their experiences good or bad ?

Bit late, I know, but I've got a 2005 Auto, and it's been fine. I paid a lot less than that 2 years ago on similar miles, but the spec isn't as good. It's been tolerable for 40k miles during that time, needing pads and discs all round, and now needs discs on the front. The tyre pressure sensors are on valves made of cheese, and I've replaced them with cheap valves. I have continual ABS/ESP warnings, usually due to faulty wheel sensors. I ignore them until MOT time. It's comfortable in the front, but surprisingly cramped behind me. The boot is disappointingly small after a Volvo V70. Auto is not as economical as I had hoped - around 39mpg. I plan to keep it until 200k - about another year, then get back into a V70.

I`ve been operating as a Peugeot specialist for over 25yrs and have seen many of my customers swop the 406 for the 407,and regret it.Yes,they look the part, lovely ride, full of kit etc,but lots of faults.I`ve been a loyal Peugeot man for more than those 25yrs but I would not recommend a 407.Only yesterday we had a 2006 407Sw with 53K, rattle from the duel mass fly wheel.Front subframe off, gearbox out,new DMF & clutch, thats £1300.00 please sir!! Clutches on 406`s could last 100K and I never replaced a flywheel in my life.Yes,I know it, call me an old fart.

Thanks for the replies, it pretty much backs up what I've read elsewhere and the one I was looking at was not all it seemed to be in the advert.

In the end I went for a Jag x-type estate 2.0d
